My new shaft the MAQ 4 is one of the most innovative products on the market today. The MAQ 4 incorporates 4 quadrants of 18 layers of flat maple, each at a right angle to the first. It has very low deflection, the most consistent, high tech, greatest preforming cue shaft in the world today. Less deflection with increased power and control as a bonus. I like the engineering, but I think you made a typo. Aren't the layers rotated 90 degrees from each other?

You are right I meant at a right angle not a 45 degree angle,

here is a test conducted by a cue maker (Annie O) who recently passed away with some amazing result. She really was the creator of this shaft and I am carrying on her idea.

What does "distance from aiming line" mean? Is that a squirt measurement?

Looks like the 'Meucci-esk' deflection test.

Only nit pick of the design is that flex will change when your holding it in 'X' of orientation then when you are holding it at '+' orientation of the grain.

It shows how far the cue ball deflects from a 3/16 right center English hit on the cue ball by a machine arm.

Hit with right spin.. the ball deflects to the left...
so, this is a swerve test?
With the right speed on the ball, I'd imagine all of
these shafts hit the aim point. :confused:
 
Hey, I play with one of these...all I can tell you is that based on every cue I have tried this is the best. Best feel and everything. I keep trying to find something better but I keep coming back to it. I played a match last night with it after months of using a straight maple and I played better than I have in some time. I got mine with a Stacey cue that I bought off Ebay from the guy who actually manufactures these shafts. Not that my endorsement means crap compared to a player like Mike Gulyassy...but I think they are great.

I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to try one of these out on my Meucci. Will you mass produce them? Or will they have to be custom ordered for each specific individual?

I mean no disrespect too you Mike, but can I ask how you came to this conclusion that its the greatest performing cue shaft in the world today? Im in sales :D If u dont like the post I will delete it, but it gives u opportunity to further promote your name and shaft :)

Because all the layers are at 90 degree angles to each other, wouldn't that allow for the shaft to flex the same regardless of orientation?

I'm just wondering if that would not necessarily be the case. Since at any one time one quarter of the laminates are facing in one direction and the right angle laminates are facing the other, it seems that the laminates would counteract each other and prevent each other from deflecting more. I think on a Black Dot shaft, since all the laminates are facing the same way, that if they are facing in one direction then it is (should be) different from when they face the other. Think of it this way: if you took one single slice of the laminate, and bent it in the flat direction it would be easy to bend. However, if you tried to bend it along the thin side it would be nearly impossible to bend, even more so if it was a multitude of laminates. A sheet of plywood is normally easy to bend, but you could never bend it on the spine part. I'm shooting with a Black Dot that I recently got, and I can tell a slight difference from when I have the laminates facing in different directions. It seems that Gulyassy's/Annie O's design would eliminate that. I would love to test drive one of these designs and give a full report back here on AZB (hint-hint).

Not in my opinion. The shaft would be 'stronger' when the forces oppose the - directly the when opposing the > or < side. Take anything x shaped and bend it and it will collapse in the V's. Basic engineering.

Precisely why OB1 orients thiers so there are verticle lams facing out equally in all directions.

What are the results compared to a OB1? The OB1 looks as if it is made from many laminated sheets and then assembled in a interlocking "C" configuration.

I don't own either but both seem to have interesting concepts.

It seems X shaped or + shaped, depending on the orientation of the shaft, right? Just like if my Black Dot has the dot up, then the laminates are like this: =, but if the dot is to the side then the laminates are like this: ll.
