I watched the first 5 minutes, but neither of them managed to pocket a ball so turned it off... :o

you've put ronnie in there, and whilst he is an amzing snooker player, he is just that. a snooker player. which is a completely different cueing skill to pool which you just cant compare.

for me it's between earl, shane, and efren.

my vote went to earl because he's my favourite.

Efren

When you watch things, watch the 2006 one pocket semi and final at the DCC. I haven't seen anyone else show that consistent mastery of a cue ball at any time. Efren at his best is simply better than anyone else in the world at their best.

So how about your candidate getting beaten by this "just a snooker player":

How about it?

I have beaten a man many consider the world's best and I beat him very near his peak years if not in his peak. Nobody knows my name and nobody begins to consider me the best in the world, not even me.

Did you beat this "world's best" at a world event, like, the Mosconi Cup by a chance..?

I beat him

I beat him. I beat him playing on an honest table and I beat him until he realized he was not going to get a chance at the table and he pulled up. The point is the same regardless of where it happened at. Once players get past a certain level any of them can beat any other on a given night. That doesn't make the winner "best".

There were nights when I controlled every shot played on the table that night. It would not have mattered who else was there, if they couldn't shoot they couldn't win. With the man in question, he won the coin flip and won three times before I picked up a stick. He never got another shot. Did that make me better than him?

I picked SVB from that list, but there are alot of others that should be on there as well. Archer and Allison are two that should be considered IMO.

Southpaw

Wait, Peer: you ask for the best current cueist, and then you post video examples that are 12+ years old? I don't see what those videos prove about who is the best today.

If it is "best ever" it would be hard to distinguish between Earl, Efren, and Ronnio O'Sullivan. Right now I would have to say Shane.

You are right, it doesn't "prove" anything, but I hope it will introduce some ideas of what's a good "cueist". For instance, almost no one at our poolhall have even heard of Torbjorn Blomdahl who I happen to think (and I hate to admit it since he's a Swede) is hands down the best of the best.

you seem to have missed my point. i never referred to ronnie as 'just' a snooker player, which would imply i don't care much for his ability by calling him 'just'. which is not the case at all, he's a fabulous player.

i was simply saying that a top pool player's cueing (earl, efren, shane), and a top snooker player's cueing (ronnie, hendry) are completely different styles so you can't really compare them. and one style isn't 'better' than the other either.

so a fairer more accurate poll would be the best snooker cueist, best pool cueist, and 3 cushion/masse cueist too.

On given days, any one of the players noted could be considered the best. My concern is when I skimmed down the list, I didn't see Archers name. It startled me and I had to look twice. I understand that he might not be the player he once was, but I still think that he belongs on the list. He would get my vote. I watched him murder the Turning Stone event in NY a couple times with numerous world class competition. I guess I'm more surprised that I'm saying this on the second page of the thread and there aren't several others with the same opinion. OPINION.

All time best cueist I ever saw was Raymond Ceulemans. Nowadays from that list I would have to say Shane.
