Putnik be a straaight pool kinda guy. I dont believe he could touch Tot in 9 ball. Though Tot is a bit of a nervous wreck at times. Go Sandor!

Wait- Aren't there 2 Sandor Tots in pool?

Hmmmm, not that I know of... Could be though...

Anyway, Ivica 125 - 78 Sandor.

Norwegian Ronny Oldervik beat last year's runner-up (or semifinalist) Huidji See at the loser-side, 125-100.

Ronny is my favourite Norwegian player, but Vegar Kristiansen (267 as his high run) is probably the best 14-1 player of them. Both of them are still in, Vegar on the winners side. (He beat Ivica Putnik earlier today, had a 76 run)

...and Hudji is no schmuk either... Good result.

Haven't studied the schedule for the morning, but will post as I find. Are you there right now Roy ?

For those of you have never heard of Bruno Muratore from Italy, he is now ranked very high on the eurotour, and he did well in the World 8-ball Championship also, if I am not mistaken.

He is 40+ I believe, and didn't start to play very good pool before 1 - 1,5 year ago. He's always been one of the best Italian players, but now he is also making the balls on the international scene, which he struggled to do before.

Roy Steffensen

I am pulling for Vegar Kristiansen and Line Kjorsvik now. Would be cool to get 2 European Champions. Actually Norway can get 3 European Straight Pool Champions!!

Also Norwegian Christian Johannessen in the Senior division are in the Quarterfinal, even though he's got a very tough draw against Tony Fransson, a swede. (Christian is member her on azb, under the name "pooladdict")

Norway is ranked 4th on the European Medals list from the European Championships throughout their 30 year long history, but it's been many years since the men, senior and youth won any medals. The last 10 years only Line Kjorsvik has been getting Norway medals, that's the reason why Austria now have passed Norway on the ranking.

The top 4 are:

1. Germany
2. Sweden
3. Austria
4. Norway

In the Team-competition Norway is still ranked 3rd. (Team consist of 3 players, with one player playing 8-ball, one 9-ball and one 14-1. First to 2 wins.)

1. Germany GER 52 gold in all diciplines
2. Sweden SWE 20 gold in all diciplines
3. Norway NOR 5
4. Poland POL 4
5. Austria AUT 3

Also silver and bronze counts on the ranking, so even if Poland or Austria gets better then Norway this year, Norway still have like 24 bronze-medals which also are worth points on the ranking.

Nice to see that Norway are still up there :D

Some of you might wondering where the Netherlands are in this ranking, since The Netherlands without a doubt nowadays belongs to the top in Europe. They produce new great young players every year, and they will climb on this ranking, that's for sure, but their first great player was Rico Diks, in 1996 I think.

Just after that Alex Lely, Nick van den Berg and Niels Feijen started to win some medals too, but before that The Netherlands had very few good players.

Semifinal Jasmin Ouschan - Line Kjorsvik.

I don't think Line has ever beat (or played) Jasmin in 14-1, but in the other diciplines it's pretty much even. About a year ago I think they had 5 wins each. Line has won the last 2 semifinals in 9-ball against her in the EC 2006 and EC 2007. Line won in 06, runner-up in 07 in 9-ball.

Lately Line has made several runs of 50, 60 and 70, so she's in good form and for the first time I actually think she is in good enough form to beat Jassy in 14-1. Normally Jassy is unbeatable in 14-1 for the european players, but Line is not far from being on her level when she's on.

The place has been empty all week - now it's standing room only - everyone is crowding around to watch Ralf. He's playing very well right now and getting into the balls very easily. Awesome display of skill and precision.

BlackJack: Did you know that Jorgen Sandman resigned as National Coach for Austria this year, and signed as coach for Team Norway?

He's already had several trainingcamps with the players (theory, PAT-exercises, etc) and it looks like it's good for the team to finally have a real coach. Norway soon in 2 semifinals, perhaps 3!

I really enjoy watching Vegar Kristiansen finally playing outside Norway again. For personal reasons he has chosen to not represent Norway in international tournaments the last 7 years, except EC 2004 when Hohmann won. Then Vegar was the first to run 125 and out, but he finished 9th only.

Last time he played in big tournaments was Eurotour in 2001 in Portugal which he won, and he also finished 3rd in the World Championship 9-ball in 1999.

He was invited to World 14-1 Championship last year, but got the invitation a little to late.

Hope he will start to play more outside Norway now...

I agree - but what happens to Line in WPBA tournaments?? - Jazz does better - yet Line bombs out - I feel Line can do final 4 but it does not happen

I don't know why she is struggling over there in the main-tournaments...

But right now she is playing good 14-1.

Ouschan, Jasmin 42 vs 42 Kjorsvik, Line. Think Line is on 30 now

Did anyone see what Ralf missed on when he was on 123??? I didn't see his shot...

This is the third time they have met in a semifinal during the last three European Championships. 9-ball in 06 and 07, Line won 9-4 and 7-2, and now victory in 14-1 too!!!

GREAT LINE!! I am proud of you.

Perhaps 14-1 and 8 ball are Line's best as she has 4 gold - 1-14.1, 2 - 8 ball - 1 - 9 ball ; but to beat Jazz in 14.1 says something - it seems like there is a continual pace in EPC that is is not there in WPBA - in other words - there are not long gaps between games - so if you get in stroke you can stay in stroke .

Does anyone know how long this run is? I tuned in when he was at the table 58-50.

For anyone who isn't watching it is 101-50 now. Ralf looks like he may finish off the match from here. But there is still 24 balls to go and anything can happen.

Well it's at least a 60 ball run. And judging from his position on the break ball it will be 75 and out (at least).

When the score was 57-50 yesterday in the semifinal between Ralf and Vegar I had to leave for work. Have been catching up now here on az.

Got a text yesterday saying that the Croatian crowd at the venue went wild when Ivica won :D I can only imagine.
