I was sitting ring side yesterday and the only match he lost, for the week, was against Alcano for the hot seat. Mika came back strong in the semi-final, winning decisively against Kiamko.

In the finals he was putting beautiful runouts together, playing very tidy safeties and just dominated Alcano from the start. The only place where slowed down was when Alcano finally put together 3 or 4 games to draw within 3 but he played a loose safety, Mika walked to the table and put him away.

It was a dominating win for Mika and it was great fun to be sitting there enjoying it with all his fans.

Congratulations to Mika Immonen - 2008 US Open 9 Ball Champion!

Mika only uses Mezz equipment. Congrats Mika, even though you beat me 11-0 in the open. You played as well as you could this week and made the bookmakers at the open sick and I thank you for that.

Mika simply played the best all week, and many present made him the favorite early on. I still liked Ronnie, knowing how motivated he was to atone for his loss in the finals last year. And Mika had been finishing second a lot this year, failing to get over the hump in the big match.

All that said, I was quietly pulling for Mika to win. He has been my friend for a long time and I know how dedicated he is to being the best player he can be. Mika had his own cross to bear, losing 11-0 to Corey in the 2001 finals.

When the pressure was on and Ronnie closed the gap to 10-7, Mika responded big time and made the shots he needed to secure the win. He played like a champion down the stretch and deserves the title of 2008 U.S.OPEN CHAMPION!

As for Ronnie, he may be the only back to back runner-up in Open history. Quite a feat considering the depth of talent and sheer size of the field both years.

Mika is certainly in the elite ranks of today's- hell, the last decade's- pro pool scene. Ralf gots nothin on him.

Not only is the proficiecy there, but he had great execution, as evidenced by a great friggin tournament showing!
