More than a website: www.europeanpoolchampionships.com

A tournament like the European Championship requires a streamlined information service. It is a pity that in previous editions this hasn’t always been the case. Not only for the players, but also for the home front it’s difficult when accurate and actual information is not at hand.

The objective of the Dutch organization is crystal-clear: to organise the best European Pool Championships ever. Therefore it’s not surprising that Eye Catching Solutions has been approached to develop the information system for the 2005 edition. This young and dynamic company has already build quite a reputation in the Netherlands. Eye Catching Solutions is the creative brain behind the Pro Team League website (Dutch strongest pool competition), the online shop of F&M The Cue Company, and the soon to be released website of Alex “The Plague from The Hague” Lely. During the second season of the Pro Team League an innovative feature was launched for Live Scoring: real-time website updates through handheld devices. The response of both players and website visitors was enormous.

Naturally this feature will be used during this years EPC. The secret of the Live Scoring lies in the central database. Updates are made on PDA’s (PocketPC) which connect to the internet via a wireless network. Because of the fact that these updates are made on the same online database the visitors of the site are using, all changes are visible immediately. That makes it possible to follow a match rack by rack, ball by ball without any delay at all. You’ll see the action on the website as it happens in the match arena.

Features
Besides the Live Scoring, the website has all the ingredients to keep all pool fans informed. The main features of www.europeanpoolchampionships.com at a glance:
- Tournament Info, all general info on EPC 2005
- Venue Info, all info on NH Koningshof
- Latest News, match reports, in-dept interviews and more …
- Draw & Results, matches sorted by discipline
- Order of Play, daily program of matches
- Tournament Sheets, view the real-time brackets online
- Live Scoring, watch the action as it happens
- Meet the players, profiles, personal records and more …
- Photo Galleries, taste the atmosphere and see the action captured

Facilities
In the playing area, the players lounge and the foyer, a scoreboard will be projected. You can see the actual scores and status of all matches in progress. Of course there’s an online version of this scoreboard available through the internet for everyone who isn’t able to visit the event.

In the players lounge we’ve set up a number of PC’s where the participants can take a look at the draw, order of play and the results. No need to ask yourself where, when, and whom to play; it is all in the system. Simply navigate to a player profile and all relevant information is visible immediately.

All the hotel rooms have internet facilities. If you bring your PC along, you can access the EPC information system even from your own hotel room. NH Koningshof is equipped with a wireless network throughout the whole building. So if your computer has facilities for wireless communication, you’re able to access the internet “on the move”.

Berry, a couple of months ago, I asked you how the 2005 European championships figures in the qualifying for both the 2005 Women's World Championships and the 2005 Men's World championships. Are you able to answer this?
