Hello AZ

After prompting by DMGWALSH and Blackjack I am getitng off my tush and finishing the DVD's for the straight pool challenge from earlier this year 2009. The DVDs will be made available shortly, Blackjack has offered to do the commentary on the various runs.
----------------------------------------------------------
Since I never saw what I would call complete press release for the event I thought I would try to fill in the details.

Bob Jewett added $10,000 again the straight pool challenge at the Derby City Classic this year 2009. Diamond / Greg Sullivan supplied 2 tight Diamond 9' tables with Blue Simonis and Aramith Pro balls in a private room at the Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana near Louisville, KY.

Bob Jewett, Dennis Walsh (dmgwalsh) Bill Maropilos (marop) scored the runs. The format of the event was daily prizes for the 3 highest runs of the day $300,$200,$100. The high run of the event got an addition $1000.

The 8 players with the highest runs would play each other in 4 matches record by Accu Stats on the main TV table. The semi finals were played back in the private room. The final championship match was played back on the TV table and recorded by Accu Stats.

I had a camera setup on innermost table in the 14.1 challenge room for the entire event. There was also a camera setup for some period on the second table and most of those runs were recorded as well but not all.

I will post out the details I have summarized the data for the event. To all players please forgive any and all mispellings of names.

Here are the run attempts I have score sheets for from the event. The score for John Schmidt are currently incomplete at this time. There might be one or more players whose score is not noted but these are the complete scores I have in hand at the time of this positing.

The plaers had a max of 12 attempts for the entire event. Only the first four for any given day were taken into acct for that days high run prize. Some players took all 12 in a row. Most players took four attempts per day. The attempts were not scheduled and the players could play any time they found one of the tables open.

Here are are the scores sorted in order of max high run.

John Schmidt
Score sheet not found/incomplete will attempt to recreate remaining 8 run scores from video.

I will be putting up a link in the near future with the available runs and cost. I am currently planning on offering the runs of a 100 balls or more and the semi finals. I am planning on Blackjack providing vocal commentary on these runs. The video is fairly high quality. If there are any other runs of interest to any on the board they could also be made available.

Please let me know if there is interest in these DVD's as they will be used to support Bob who is trying to bring back straight pool.

Thanks to all who all played this year. I enjoyed being involved and capturing these runs.

Round Of 8 - Four Matches on the TV Table
There were four matches of the 8 hi runners. These matches were recorded by Accu-Stats. The winners went on to play in the semi final matches.

Charlie Williams 17

Danny Harriman 100 High Run 96

Final Match was played on the TV table and recorded by Accu-Stats
Darren Appleton 47 -- Hi Run 27
Danny Harriman 100 -- Hi run 49

The other two matches were

Thorsten Hohmann-- 100 -Hi run 98
Corey Deuel-- 32

and I think that the Appleton/Runningen match was one of the original 4 matches.

Appleton/Hohmann was a semi-final match which Appleton won.

Kudos to Elvi for all his hard work, lugging in all his equipment, setting everything up and filming for days and days. I can't wait to see the finished products.

If any of the players listed in these videos want to assist in this project, let me know. Your input, your support, and your commentary is what is needed to help keep this event alive. Bob Jewett has been devoted to this event for several years now, and this is the best way to show your appreciation for his hard work and dedication.

I can get with Thorsten, John Schmidt, Charlie Williams, Corey Deuel, and Johnny Archer to see if they are willing to provide additional commentary in a player review style. If anybody else wants to assist with this project, let me know. I really could use the help.

I have been working on trimming out the video over the weekend. I do not think the Danny Harriman 114 or the Huidji See 114 were captured. I believe these were shot on the outer table nearer the door and this table did not always have a camera rolling.

The John Schmidt 154 does not have sound due to early technical setup issues. All of the other videos have sound.

I need to cleanup the semis and send what I have to Blackjack this week.

I might go ahead and include the runs of 80 or more which i think we have from Johnny Archer 83 and Bobby Hunter 80. I do not think the Charlie Williams run of 85 was captured. I will keep looking at what I have on video.

DMG if you get a chance do you rememebr where the missing runs were attempted on the outer or the inner table perhaps look through the video you have from this year.. I am going off the score sheets and am looking through the video.

I think I will post the DVD cover shortly.

Elvi: I know the Hudji was on the back table. I scored it. I think I scored the Harriman on the back table, too. But didn't we have a camera going back there. Charlie Williams was on the back table, too. I don't have time to look through the stuff. I'm leaving for Paris today.

Dennis,

When you get back, would you be able to sit down with Bobby and do a player review of his 80? I can get with John, Charlie, Corey and Thorsten here in Florida - perhaps Danny could travel up to Chicago to meet with you as well.

I think the player's perspective would add a lot of depth to this package. I am in the process of getting volunteers from others that would like to volunteer to assist with this project. Tommy Kennedy has already been drafted involuntarily.

Dana, you also need to call me today to get my new address.

Dennis - thanks buddy, Have a great time in Paris.

On the front table issue that is what I thought. I think we have the other runs of 80 plus, I will have those cut out and sent to Blackjack this week.

We could probably do something. I imagine if I put a wav file of Bobby's run on my laptop, we could use moviemaker and just work from my laptop at the pool hall or somewhere. Any hints would be helpful.

Danny is a *****ly (- with small sharp spikes: having a surface or skin with *****les on it
- uncomfortable: irritating to the skin, especially because of fibers or *****les that are rough to the touch
- oversensitive: easily angered, offended, or upset)

pear and I don't see him traveling up here to do this.

Just so you know - I got the DCC videos yesterday - I am starting to put them together this weekend. Everybody will be in Orlando in a few weeks, and I am trying to set something up where the players can assist with commentary.

Harriman-Schmidt

We have it all on tape. This is one of the most entertaining modern day pool rivalries. Two great players that seem to bring out both the best and worst of each other at times. You've heard the stories, you've seen the posts on here that go back and forth - despite all of that, these are two of the greatest players alive today.

With the cameras rolling, they put on quite a show.

Edit: Jay Helfert reffed the match!

I'd like to get interviews with both John and Danny -

Dennis, if you could PM me Danny's cell # I would appreciate it.

John, I just need to know if you'll be in Orlando or not. Bay Hill.... If not, perhaps we can make plans for me to drive up to see you when you have a weekend free. Bay Hill.... I would need you to do commentary on your 154. Bay Hill... as well as having you and Corey do commentary on his 153. Bay Hill... Corey Deuel... Johnny Archer... Arnie... Tiger... Bay Hill... Bay Hill... Bay Hill...

Whew... I hope this hypnosis works on him.

Dennis, Dana, and Bob did an awesome job capturing this video for the second straight year. We are putting this package together and would appreciate that everybody show their support by purchasing these dvd's when they become available.

I hope to have all of the commentary completed by August 15th, and the dvd's should be available shortly after that.

Thanks, David, but don't forget the Maropomonster. He was there helping Bob the last two years that I know of.
