"Only take what the table will give you natural". "Take the longer position, but make the shot". "Don't try for position you all ready have" (Buddy Hall).
You see a lot of players, myself included missing a shot trying for better position. A perfect example is the guy SVB is playing in Russia. I don't think he every heard or read these things. Playing safe has not meant dirty pool in 30 years. Johnnyt

Two-shot rollout was chess. One foul and jump cues make the game akin to "tiddly winks"

Totally agree on the pogo stick. It's made the game comical. Next will be "chance cards" you can draw at the beginning of your turn.

is it possible to get to "pro-level" tiddly winks in 4 years if you practice everyday ?

With jump sticks it is not the same game.

Apapt to survive. Dont have to like it!

I get great satisfaction out of a safety that doesnt allow a hop.

Tell them you should practice kicking and jumping.

Only if you line up the edge of your tiddly-wink to the center of the other tiddly-wink and snap it with TOW (Touch of Wink).

My Dad had quite a few of these.

1. You can learn from the worst player you come across.
2. The balls roll funny for everybody sometimes.
3. Ya gotta take a shot to make a shot.

It's in the way that you use it,
It comes and it goes.
And if you lie you will lose it,
Feelings will show.
So don't you ever abuse it,
Don't let it go.

During the 19 years I've lived in Florida, I've heard the expressions "dirty pool" and "nigger pool" on many occasions.

This is among the reasons I don't play much anymore.

My dad used to always say in reference to a shot to nothing in snooker...

If you don't think about potting the ball, how do you expect to pot it?

Too often I would think more about the where I wanted the white to land safe and I would always miss the pot and leave it over the pocket. Best advice I've ever had on these types of shots.

If I'm stuck with a shot where I don't see a percentage safe, and I just have to bite my lip and make a shot, I say "the Lord hates a coward...", get down, and shoot.

People in my league, if I'm looking at a shot too long, have started saying the same thing. So that's mine. "The Lord hates a coward".

This is a great idea. I'm going to see if I can introduce this at my local league.

"You shared your french fries with a friend. Take an extra turn."

"Sharked your opponent. Lose one turn."

"Use the express lanes. Move one object ball to any other position on the table."

"Great dance moves. Move the cue ball up to 3 inches in any direction."

I could go on...

Totally agree. Fear is your enemy in pool. Sometimes you are stuck in a situation where your best option is to go for a tough shot. In that case, just like on any other shot, there is no benefit to negative thoughts. Step up and give it your best stroke.

Also agree. Your thoughts on position should occur while you are standing and planning the shot. I have shared with friends in practice sessions that once you get down on the shot your focus should be on making the ball.

I like to take it a step further and attempt to stay focused on making every shot in the center of the pocket. And to stay down until the object ball disappears in the pocket, paying attention to where it went in the pocket. If it missed I should be watching and paying attention to how and where it missed. I'm not good enough to get away with cheating the pocket on a routine basis. So I try to avoid cheating the pocket as much as possible.

I don't always remember to do this though, and there are still times I miss and realize I wasn't even paying attention to the object ball. Remarkably, when I stick with this routine, the position takes care of itself surprisingly well.

Kicking this can further down the road,.....

How do we even know there IS a "pro-level" in jumping,..errrr.... I mean "tiddly winks," and would you recognize it when you see it ??

Jumping is for people who can't kick.

This one should be a tattoo... accept pretty good position where you are vs going around the table etc. risking getting hooked, scratching... I've seen guys try that and come back to the SAME spot!

HawaiianEye, couldn't agree more bruddah... jump sticks are for children who can't kick..
I can watch a match with some "young gun" and he'll go to the pogo stick so quickly, no thought into an alternative... no art to that.
I'd sure like to see a 9 or 10 ball tournament with NO jump sticks... judges?
