That's cool to see Mark Tadd in there. Not sure if he'll ever play enough pool to get back in stroke or not, but it would be pretty cool if he did.

Last I heard Ritchie was back in Alaska. Hopefully he made the trek to defend his title. I was gonna go this year but I still have a hangover from last years Saturday night with Ritche O. :D Dude knows how to party.

I searched "Reno Open #45" and found the website, but I couldn't open the downloaded file. This site might contain the brackets. If you can open the file, please post the brackets.

I don't think the brackets will be up until later today, this being the first day. Maybe they do the draw ahead of time, but I am not sure. Sometimes they don't do the draw until the first day, right before the event commences. I will be staying tuned! :p

Used to be a winter and summer big table event with the U.S. Bar Table Championships held in March. Now they just do the winter big table event and the bar box in March.

But they just moved the summer session to Sacramento at Hardtimes. So basically still twice a year but not as much added money.

They do the draw the night before so that everyone knows what time they play the next day. All matches are scheduled at certain times.

I got a bye in the first round and don't have to play until Wed nite at 10pm. So I get to sweat some matches today and tomorrow before I get to play.

Lots of great regional players from Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington State.

Shane VB went for 300 in the player auction and I left when they were on page 4 of the 6 page player list doing 1 player at a time.

More to come when I can get online.

Thats all? Seems kinda like a weak calcutta. I'd think SVB would go for well over 1000?

I thought so to. I was there last year and it was the same way. Weird. Guys were betting it up on the side but the calcutta was pretty tame.

Well, now that I think about it, it's not like local or smaller tournaments where you know there are going to definitely be 3 or 4 guys at the end, which causes an inflation if you will. I mean these guys are capable of beating eachother in any one set. So, I guess I'd be a bit leary in risking too much in a tournament like this where anybody is capable of winning. Although, you would think guys would form corperations and make it a little more exciting and at least get 4 digit numbers up there for the elite such as SVB.

This tournament isn't what it used to be. 20 years ago the Sands was a $20,000 added $300 entry event, and they were getting all the best players from everywhere. Its more of a regional event now. Last time I went to this event was about 3 years ago. The Sands has been making good money of pool events for a long time, its hard to believe that they can't get the Sands to put up more than 12K for this event. When I was there I noticed the tables on the casino floor were full with spectators and players from the tournament. I then went to other casinos in the area and could not find a casino that even had any dealers on the floor, the Sands was the only place around where you could play blackjack or craps and the reason was the tournament.
The tribal casinos in California are really killing the casinos in Reno right now. It seems to me that putting on big events in Reno would be a win-win situation. If a casino in Reno would put up $100K for an event similar to DCC, they would probobly get around 350-400 payers which would bring many more spectators the majority of which are gamblers. The problem is that it seems that we as the pool community seem to be happy with a low level of money being added to such a long running event.

Sands put up 26,500, 15,000 guarnateed for first.
Man u are wrong on the other casinos being dead. Remember the Sands Casino floor is smaller than any other downtown. We and my large group never stayed there to gamble unless we had to. We went to the El Dorado mostly and the old Flamingo. You are wrong. Other casinos were packed, expecially on the weekend and more so when the summer tourny ran.
The Sands venue can barely handle a venue of 200 much less 350-400.

I just talked to a friend of mine on site and he relayed this wierd story.
He remembered seeing Mark Tadd play years ago and was real impressed but he was not sure this was the same guy entered in this tournament cause he had not heard of him playing again. So he stopped by to watch his first match with some guy named Frank.
Lo and behold Mark ran the first 3 racks, then missed on a 4 ball, then get this, he proceeded to push the balls to the rack area, forfeiting the game. He continued the same procedure. He never let his opponent shoot. If he missed, game over, and a loss. He did win the match, but don't know the score. I have never seen anyone do that, not even Earl.
P.S. Well I still havent cause I am not there. Might fly up tomorrow though.

Meh... I guess being a born again Christian determined to win souls hasn't made him any more of a good sport.

The first time he did it should have been loss of two games. The second time, loss of match. How the hell is his opponent supposed to catch a stroke if he never lets them hit a ball unless they sink a ball on the break?

Yup.. I am STILL convinced Mark is a jerk. A very very VERY talented jerk... But still a jerk.

I thought I read on the AZ home page that there was 12K added, maybe I was mistaken. But one thing I do know, is that the Reno casinos are hurting. I know about the casinos struggling there because my dad worked for El Dorado in operations management up until about 4 years ago. The Reno casinos are taking a beating from places like Thunder Valley and Jackson Rancheria.
As for the Sands not being able to accomodate 350, I can tell you this. I played in the USPPA Pro-Am there back in Dec 1990 and there was 332 players in that event if I remember correct. Think about that over 330 for the pro am and the following week the pros had around 120. Its been done, at that very location. You can ask Jay Helfert he directed the tournaments at that time.

I believe Earl actually got in trouble with the Pro Tour for doing the exact same thing as Tadd...every time he missed, he just racked up the balls like he was playing the Ghost.

Dick Wadsworth is a local player in Northern Cal who is called Richard or his nickname "Easy". I've never actually heard anyone call him Dick. He was a student of Ed Nagle's and can play some excellent pool sometimes.

Derek is a friend of another local player and can play good sometimes. Not a world beater, but a quality player who can beat talented players if the balls roll right.

I'm not sure I saw Dan Wallace on the list as far as San Diego players go.

I frequent an MMA forum where they do not allow the members to bash the fighters. I think that would be a great thing to implement on this forum. Seems like the only posts I see from Russ... he is bashing Mark Tadd or whining about people quoting his infamous comment. How you ever received your high rep count is beyond me. I always wondered if he played in any tournaments if his beard touching the balls caused a foul to be called on him.
