Have you tried Circus Circus, it is a dump but better than the Riveria IMHO. http://www.geocities.com/cocobolocowboy/fragged.gif

I'm not absolutely positive, but pretty sure, the only way you'll be able to get someone elses room, is if they let you just stay in it. Leaving it in the original persons name. Which is pretty risky. When they agree to cancel the reservation, the hotel takes control of it again, and chances are, it's already taken. I've had friends who had a reservation for months, got there and they were overbooked. They got moved up to a suite for a day or 2, then relocated. And thats a huge inconvenience for 4 women to repack, and unpack again. No offense ladies.
Your best bet, if you want a room at the Riv. Is call them in the morning and again in the evening, every day. And talk to a host in the players club. If you're not a registered player, register with them.
I called in Jan., a few years ago. For VNEA reservations thru my slot host. She said they were full. I was a little agitated, but then a friend of mine called 2 weeks later and his host got him a room. About a week later we were talking and he told me he got a room, so I called again. She said they were full again.
The hotel blocks off so many rooms for the BCA or VNEA, that the league sells. Then, the hotel will keep so many rooms blocked off for the people who are regulars and spend more money than us LOW-ROLLERS. As the event nears, they start releasing rooms, a little at a time.
When I called back the second time and she explained this to me, I was mad as hell. We had been staying there every year and spent on average about $3000 a year. I told her thats fine, I'll take my measly $3000 and stay across the street. But I'll never gamble another nickle in your hotel once I move. She called me back about 10 minutes later and got my room.

Villa Roma

Rooms are nice, outside is a dump.

Walking distance to Riviera, check the reviews.

CHEAP!

If that damn construction fence isn't there anymore, it's back door is right across the street from Riviera's back entrance. Otherwise it is still a closer walk than Circus Circus.

NOT A CASINO
