I see that the BCA-PL Nationals in May at the Riv will have two pro events. The World Pool Masters (9 ball), a Matchroom production, will take place May 9-11. It is a 16-player invited field with the many of the usual top players but with some others who are relatively unknown to the American audience including Tony Drago and Thomas Engert. See http://www.playbca.com/ for details.

The Predator 10-Ball International will take place May 12-17. This was in Florida in the past. See http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.cfm?storynum=5218 for details.

I hope all of the World Pool Masters entrants will stay over for the 10-ball.

That depends, Bob.

At last year's World 10 Ball, it was double Elimination until they got down to the final 16 - 8 from the 1 loss side - 8 from the NO LOSS side.

Just like the WPBA, they scrambled it up and started it all over - final 16 single elimination. This didn't set well with many of the guys from the NO LOSS side, most notably Francisco Bustamante - who had his share of miffed moments in 2007 - Francisco went on to lose his first match - he was eliminated from the tournament - and hoooooo boy.... was he pissed off about it. His argument was that others had lost 1 match and they were still in the tournament, including SVB, and Alex Pagulayan.

There were other "international players" that didn't care for that format either. So I think that whether or not they "stay over" depends on the format this year.

I hope the World 10 Ball goes to a true double elimination format. Personally, I don't think that format should be used for any World Championship. Last years event ended with 9 players with only 1 loss - one guy getting the winner's check. That made no sense. Just my personal view.

Does the UPA have anything to do with either of these events?

Scott

Neither events are affiliated with the UPA - nor are they on the UPA Tour Schedule (according to their website). The 10 ball event is being promoted by Dragon Promotions - the other event is being promoted by Matchroom Sports.

Many players are actually coming in a couple of weeks early to play in the Desert Shootout in Phoenix. It's on April 24-27 and most of the top players will be there. Ten Ball with 25K Added! This is a UPA sanctioned event.

I just got word that Efren and Busta are expected as well. I think you can find all the info on the Tournament Section of AZ.

According to the DP site, this event will be available live on Kozoom (www.kozoom.com). In the past, I think they have only streamed carom events. See http://www.dragonpromotions.com/flyer.php?file=2008_Predator_10Ball

Yes, the Predator/Dragon addition of Pro Ten Ball (May 12-17) at the Riviera is TREMENDOUS and should boost participation in the amateur events. Woohoo! But hey, that re-draw from D/E down to S/E...who came up with that idea? Send him away.
