It's not something you use a lot,but when you hit a jump shot,it marks you as a player and briefly impresses women.Make the angle of your cue steeper, aim at the bottomost fraction of the ball, and drive the cue smoothly six inches past the contact point, making steady, downward contact with the felt.

its a lot easier if you keep your cue level and aim under the white ball. if you hit it right it will scoop the white ball off the table and make it jump over the ball in your way to make the eight ball and win the game. i've done this many times against A players and won lots of money.

Here's another one that really impresses the ladies. Stand at the head of the table, elevate the back of your cue and hit the cueball real hard off the end cushion. Now as the cueball is flying back at you 90 mph quickly reach up and grab the cueball out of mid air. Ultra coolness!

Note: If you miss the cueball as it is coming back at you, don't forget to duck. It really, really hurts when they hit you in the head. ;)

It would be even more fun to pay a guy you don't like much 5 bucks to stand directly behind you when you shoot the shot.

Actually, I saw Willie Mosconi do this exact shot after some demonstration thing on TV back in the late 60's or early 70's. He hit it perfect and it landed right in his hand.

Nice, I remembered when I made a jump shot. Ended up slopping in the ball and then dogged the money ball right after it lol. I dunno if it impresses women, my friend used to do the good ol' long straight in shot without looking at the last second which his girlfriend liked lol.

I can not take credit for the above quote.Which is what it is actually.FWIW it's and exact quote, word for word, comma after mind boggling comma, followed by,what must be,too freaking many commas for one run on sentence.

I found it in Esquire...may edition 2008.They are having some sorta 75 year anniversery and had an article entitled something like "75 things every man should know how to do" (or something like that).

Anyhow, one of those 75 things is well...how to hit a jump shot.
It made me laugh, but I don't think it was supposed too,so I figured I'd share this nugget.Well, that and of course if anyone needed to know the simple ins and outs of jumping balls, there it is.Glad to help.

I sounds like instructions for the novice on how to rip the felt.

I'm reading this post thinking to myself....this cant be real!? an apparently well respected and established AZer jumps like this? and attempts to teach others?....reading on, obviously I'm happy to read it WAS meant as a joke. Guess it simply points to my "noob" status here among AZers, still trying to get a hang of the sense of humor in here! =)

That's where I learned it also . I believe Willie did it at the end of his show and catches the cue ball in his coat pocket.

If you ever do or show this shot to someone make sure they are not directly under the table lights. I showed a friend once and he decided to try it from the center of a bar table. Cue ball flies up and smashes 4 florescence light minutes before tourney was to start. BIG MESS!!
