bumps

Wake up, The answer is simple:

If you are considerate of other posters, and appreciate AZs service you will not Hog the front page for yourself or for your friends.

I am sure this is what AZ is telling you without shoving it down your throat. They are asking us to fix the problem ourselves.

There is no way to enforce a bump quota when it members other than the op doing the bumping. Not manually because the mods would have to spend every minute in wfs policing the threads and making judgements as to what is a legitimate question/comment or not.

I understand it would be nearly impossible to police the bump patterns of some members. My point was it was not very clear as to what was written. I realize sometimes a potential buyer asks a question. That could be answered to help the rest of the forum. I'm not referring the "monster player" or the infamous "hits a ton" or the classic "best cue I have ever played with but now I'm selling it".

In my opinion, the one bump per day is fine. And people should adhere to that as much as possible to be fair to everyone trying to sell their goods. There is a lot of stuff in the sticky for the wanted/for sale section. All it said was "No Bumps Allowed". Really? Does that sound like it would work?

If someone bumps there thread every 2-4 hours, that is not fair to everyone else and should be reported. Nothing here is life-threatening by having too many personal bumps but people need to show a little consideration.

I appreciate everyone's input including the sarcasm...

My personal rule on bumps is to bump only when lowering the price or adding information or answering questions. And then to try to keep it to about once a day unless lowering the price. I think as long as you are lowering the price you should be able to bump as much as you want - as long as it's not abusive, I.e. putting the price 200 higher and lowering by $1 each bump.

I honestly don't know what the solution is. But here is something to keep in mind.

I believe that you can set it up to see only the NEW threads in a forum. Or to see them from first unread. So while from the seller's perspective it seems as if their for sale items is way down the viewers might not see it that way.

Another thing that could be done is to have threads closed after a certain period, say one day. Then anyone who wants the item or talk about it has to do it via pm.

The "no bumping" rule

IT IS CLEAR FROM THE AZ OFFICIAL POST THAT BUMPING IS NOT ALLOWED. MY OPINION AND RESPONSE IS THAT THIS RULE DOES NOT SERVE THE INTEREST OF AZers WHO SELL THEIR POOL ITEMS ON AZ,AND IS NOT AT ALL FAIR AND REASONABLE. THE WANTED FOR SALE FORUM HAS BECOME A CUMBERSOME CLUTTERED MIX OF ASSORTED POOL PRODUCTS WHICH THE AZ WEBSITE OWNERS AND MANAGERS HAVE NOT CHOSEN TO MODIFY BY SEGREGATING OR ITEMIZING POOL ITEMS i.e., CUSTOM CUES, CLOTHING, BILLIARD BALLS & TABLES, ACCESSORIES, ETC. DURING 2011, A NEWLY POSTED ITEM WOULD MOVE FROM PAGE 1 TO PAGE 8+ IN A FEW HOURS TIME, AND AFTER THE FIRST POSTED DAY, THAT POST COULD MOVE TO PAGE 15-20+, AND SO ON. THUS, A SHORT TIME-WINDOW IS PROVIDED FOR THE NEWLY POSTED SALE CUES (AND BUMPED CUES) TO BE VIEWED BY POOL & BILLIARD FANS. IN 2011, I HAVE HEARD SO MANY COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO VIEW 30+PAGES LOOKING FOR CUES THEY MAY WANT TO BUY. IN SUMMARY, IF YOU REQUIRE & RULE "NO BUMPING", THEN MODIFY AND RESTRUCTURE THE WANTED FOR SALE FORUM FOR, AT THE LEAST, CUSTOM CUES. OTHERWISE, YOU RISK LOSING A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF USERS & VIEWERS. PAUL

Chris I agree with your thoughts on all of this. This forum has turned into mass confusion..lol. Hope your doing well!

Chris,

Thanks for creating the thread. I share your confusion completely. I do not know what the official rule is, but I have been adhering to the "once per day" unless I drop the price, then I will use a second bump. If we could all manage a modicum of common courtesy, I think this issue would become moot. I am very happy you brought this issue up my friend.

The excessive bump horsecrap will remain an issue until no one can post in a for sale thread with the exception of the OP and those posts should be limited to a minimum of 72 hr intervals.

There's No Reason Whatsoever Tp Bump More Than 1x Per Day

Lots of people seem to have a problem with this requirement about excessive bumping. Here's a simple approach for even the most simple minded......ONLy BUMP ONCE PER DAY....NUF SED!

That applies to the original poster and any friends, colleagues or distant family members doing it as a coverup for the original poster not bumping.....even inane, inocuous remarks or superfluous compliments can be construed to be a subsitute for bumping. You ad doesn't need to be in the first three=four pages of postings to be read by others.

Hold all bumps, by anyone, to no more than one per day...don't answer every posting with a reply just to be polite or say something trivial as that's another version of bumping. Let's clean up the forum through our collective efforts and get the garage sale listings and excessive bumps under control once and for all.

There is no way on earth to enforce that. If, by definition, anything said on any thread by anyone is a "bump" then it becomes unreasonable at best, and downright insane at worst. I actually enjoy reading most of the comments on some items for sale.

There is no simple answer here. And to expect everyone to simply play by the rules. To respect and honor their peers...well that's never going to happen. As long as money is involved, people will find ways to help their sale. That's why ebay isn't a dang forum, it's a very strict selling platform with very strict rules and guidelines in place that cannot be broken. The website simply doesn't allow for it. If ebay was run like this forum's WTS/WTB area, then you would have the same problems there as here. It's not that people are disrespectful or anything, they're just trying to help their sale. It's flippin' common sense.

And the fact that a comment on an item bumps the post is an unfortunate and highly unenforceable side effect. If I see a sweet Bil Schick with some high quality photos I want to post on it. What's the problem with posting how nice it is? It's a forum first and that's the infrastructure of any forum. The fact that people are selling on here and the sales are being affected by the fact that it's..well...a forum and not ebay...is really a catch 22. Having your cake and eating it too is a rare thing. And it wont happen here.

Good luck with this thread. I imagine being stuck in quicksand will have an easier escape route.

Now it's even worse.

My stuff is on Ebay.

Five people checking out my ebay sale.

Three days and four hours and 22 minutes left for my ebay auction.

Three days and four hours and 13 minutes left.

Here is another picture that I didn't put on Ebay.

Three days and 2 hours left.

17 people looking.

Here is another picture.

Don't miss this smoking deal on Ebay.

I agree....especially with the common courtesy part. One bump a day is fine, imo. Seriously I usually just browse through the first or second page. I could easily miss an item I need cause it is on page 54,678 after a day or two.

Little help please.

My cue has been up for sale for about 42 days and only has 22 comments or bumps.
Does this mean that I can bump it more than 1 time a day to get caught back up with the 1 a day rule?? :rotflmao:

I really don't want my cue on the front page. This way you have to find it, and its like a hidden treasure. :happydance:

Anyway, check out my Olney I have for sale. Just search Olney in the W/FS thread and you will find it. This way I wont have to bump it.

I think being on the front or 2nd page is a HUGE and MASSIVE advantage on this forum. As such, there are so many people doing it that a post stays on the front page for maybe an hour or two.

Again to define, "tasteful" or "once a day" all sounds polite and easy, but these terms will be dissected to death by many. And totally ignored by others.

If there was a way to have a forum section where an item posted for sale never drops or rises to the order based on replies then THAT would be fair. In other words, regardless of how many comments, it stays in front of ALL items listed before it, and behind ALL items listed after it. This of course changes the way a typical forum works, but would totally and completely remove the need for bumps much less the argument over which comment is actually a "bump" and which is genuine.

It's also similar to how ebay operates. But there are many advantages to it.
