Does anyone remember a pool hall called Wimpys in Elkins WV?

I don't think that's Wimpys. It could be. It was owned by the Valentines until they sold out to a bank Nextdoor. I always heard stories of players and action there. It was located at the rail yard so people could get off the train and it was right there.

The photo is from library of congress archives for the name of the hall you gave. Looks like it's been a minute. Good luck with your research

More pictures here including the one posted. http://photogrammar.yale.edu/search/...&month_stop=12

Several pool hall pics from Elkins. It looks like they were taken in more than one pool hall.

So I am suspecting there may have been more than one pool hall in Elkins. Maybe or maybe not at the same time.

Searching Wimpy's instead of Wimpys can get better results:

I’m not going to say this was the best hot dog I’ve ever had. Or even second or third best. Those spots all belong to places in West Virginia with Wimpy’s Pool Hall in Elkins, WV in the early 1960’s still holding the top slot. (Wimpy’s dogs were even better when I finally turned 18 and could legally eat them accompanied by an ice cold Stroh’s or Iron City!)

Before my time, but I love the research.

So, apparently it was called "Wimpy's Billiards".

Old Ad! https://archive.org/details/torchlight1944march NOTE: This is in North Carolina. Different pool hall.

That address looks like a residence though. So the business address may not have been the pool hall location? Not sure.

There was a Wimpy's in North Carolina.

Lots of hits for that. But it is unrelated as far as I can tell so far.

So the hot dogs were famous and I believe because of the chili. My mother has the recipe and everyone loves it. I know it was bought by Davis Trust bank which is located next to it. They turned it into a parking lot.

Yes it's not related. The Valentines owned it I do remember that.

I suggest you post in the main form for more attention. There are a lot of old timers around here that might remember the place.

I went to Elkins quite a few times from about 199x- 2003 for 2wheeled fun.

No pool there

I just found this thread...

I remember going there primarily to play pool, but the hamburgers and hot dogs were very good. I had some friends in Elkins and Valley Bend that I would visit, and I would play pool while I was in town.

IIRC this was in the mid-to-late 1980s.
