2014 us open 9-ball

..... So if I read this correctly, we are going to have fewer players and a higher entry fee. Okay, I like big pots just like anyone else in the game. But seriously ? Less people , higher entry fee and you still want to give 2k for 33-48 ? LOL Come on Barry... 1. More people want to play in the Open. 2. A grand for entry ? Not bloody likely. 3. Then insult us some more with a 2k check ? After you get a hotel, travel, food, the outrageous practice fees at Q-Masters for a week. Not to mention a rental if you fly etc. You have to at least come in the top 5 to make a profit. And that profit really isn't all that much. So basically it looks like a money pit to anyone who cant get to the top. I am totally not agreeing with this format. Alas I am not in charge so my opinion matters little...but seriously....get it together already.

The only thing barry has wrong is it should be a 4 day tournament tops.....i don't want to see a bunch of bangers play just so they can brag how they once played in the us open. The us open should be for the elite players . Its not about the money its about the lifetime title of US OPEN CHAMP...whatever money they win they usually piss away in about a month

A higher entry?

A high entry fee kills an Open Tournament for a non pro. A big part of the field? And That defeats the purpose of calling it The U.S. Open.
Open to every single person even if they have to borrow a Cue.
And some of the very best have done that.
It also encourages Savers and Splits . Pro's have to get paid. And they will figure something out.
And sooner than later Pool is dead. Would you promote any sport like that.

A lot of cabbage for sure! But, from another point of view, if you think you are good enough to play with the best, then you can get local companies and businesses in your area to sponsor you.

Better yet, qualify for the US Amateur Championship. Win that first and then go after the big boys.

Pay only $800 for the month of August 2014

Roberta, I guess a press release is warranted on this matter. There is no official word from Barry on this matter, and I believe it should be done. Just my 2 cents on this matter.

Seems to me the promotor is the winner in this model.

It's been put on the U.S. Open website already.

The US OPEN like ANY US OPEN in sports should be a qualifying event to participate...the fee should also be no higher than $300 and let 1000 people if they qualify. I love the idea of pool hall qualifiers, as I am having one right now. The main point should be just like Golf and tennis etc- corporate sponsors and casino sponsorship...more tables to speed play up with a shot clock at every table. 4 days should be the maximum time frame for an event. Just as mentioned in other posts, hotel fees, flight, rentals, food, and all other expenses for a 6-9 day event is just too much.

I guess it should have stayed at $500 with more poolrooms across the country doing qualifiers.....but then nobody does anything until changes are made and then everyone wishes things were different.

I'll be there again this year supporting Barry and the US Open.

Good luck to everyone involved. !!!!

Where ARE the qualifier locations?

Different billiard rooms are having them & there will be some at Q Masters as well.
