Pool ball collecting.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Over the years I have amassed quite a varied mix of pool balls. Does anyone else share this hobby and could perhaps post up a few photographs? I'd be keen to increase my collection if there's some nice sets attracting dust in your attic.

UPDATE.

As the thread has proved popular (we're at a mighty 660 posts and counting) I thought it might be a good idea to compile an index in order to help folks find a particular ball or set of personal interest. Post numbers are indicated in red. Many thanks indeed to all who have contributed thus far, I'll endeavour to update the index every couple hundred posts or so.

Best wishes,
RC.

I have been looking for a BBC Ball Rack so that I can start collecting some of the older different styles of Clay Balls. I do have a newer Clock with a set of clay balls.

I don't have any clay balls in my collection, mine are all forty years old or younger. The ones that got away for me were a complete set of marbled balls with Joe Camel logos where the numbers usually appear, I balked at the price tag and have regretted it ever since as I've never seen another. If anyone has a set in mint condition I would be a willing customer.

Do you have any pictures you could share, sir?

Pool ball collecting.

I was just thinking last week that a POOL BALL COLLECTING thread be started to share just a hobby within this great diverse game of pocket billiards [emoji16]

I am an avid and passionate "ball set collector" myself and think this is a fabulous idea - from sharing ideas and info on sets to pictures and even buying/selling.

I have focused on those sets that I can pull out of the display cabinets and actually play with - all modern sets within the last 5 decades with each set having its own tray, complete with set names as well as the weights of the cue ball and avg object ball weights. I also put together many "custom" sets for certain games so a particular tray is ready to go without cannibalizing numerous sets to create a certain game - such as Baseball - using the Aramith Premier balls pictured here as one example...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1da50b327f.jpg

My collection is passing 70+ sets so far, and starting to acquire the more rare, lesser known and less available sets that can be played and appreciated. Someone has to care for these balls [emoji41]

Most appreciative that you started this thread, Rubik's Cube!

I better run off quick and confess to my ball collecting addiction before this thread leaks out to my wonderful, understanding wife somehow [emoji16]

That's a lovely Baseball set, sir, many thanks for sharing.

I ordered the same set online many years ago, but when they arrived the black-striped 16 ball was missing! I've been trying ever since to buy that single ball in mint condition to no avail. :(

K2Kraze 03-12-2016 09:53 AM

[QUOTE=Rubik's Cube;5491016]I ordered these directly from the Playboy magazine, they were superseded by a newer style after one season and are no longer available.

Hey, Rubik's ----- are you playing with any of the ball sets you've posted so far? Display only or what[emoji16]

Apologies.

Sincere apologies my photographs are so large by the way, I'm not sufficiently computer savvy to know what's going wrong.

No, sir, I'm far too protective of my collection.

I only ever buy mint condition and never play with them. More fool me, I guess, but it's just the way I'm wired; I get depressed if one is dropped or scratched. :D

Well ---- I may have that ball you need and its new never hit - polished and cared for though [emoji16]

And if not --- I know where you can get the baseball add-on set in those Premiers...

Many thanks, indeed, Stickman, that's a beautiful and interesting set.

I have seen the Roman numeral sets for sale online a few times, but they have always been quite scuffed and worn so haven't placed a bid. Do you know how much the gentleman from your link wants for his set, sir?

How much would you charge me for the single 16 ball? Please bear in mind the shipping costs as I live in England.

Some are 2 1/4 inch for the American and European market and some are 2 inch for the United Kingdom.

And some, being an avid collector, I have in both sizes! :)

One other quick way to appreciate having numerous ball sets is to play a game of KRazy Eight Ball made up from 21 different sets - rules similar to Basic Pocket Billiards - but played where each player can only use three pockets on one side of the table. First player to pocket any 10 of the eight balls plus the game winning GOLD eight ball in one of their three pockets is the winner...

Don't know the rules, but the very first chance I had I'd shoot the gold eight toward " my side corner " practically hanging it. Is that a good strategy for this game?

That would be me [emoji16]

I developed a set of rules for this game to help a friend get over his "problem" of always choking on his eight ball shots in the various leagues and different ball designs he plays with --- and I call it KRazy Eight Ball - and added the challenge of fewer pockets and variations on rules.

I'll post a pic of the rule set so anyone can zoom in and read the changes - or if you'd like, send me a PM and I'll forward a PDF copy for printing.

The picture idea was hard to read --- I'll see what else I can do. In the meantime, PM for a copy that I can email to whomever wants one.

Thank you so much for sharing photographs and thoughts, ladies and gents, they're all much appreciated.

K2K: We must be kindred spirits, sir, as I, too, like to dream up pool variations. Here's a new game created for a friend recently, sending him the set and instructions (pictured) as a birthday gift.

That's an Interesting game idea --- I like games that involve a "gamble" as you have created with the doubling cube. I have a few of a similar doubling cube from a person that created an entire game around the "cube". Interesting. Very interesting.

I have developed a few games as well that use the idea of a player affecting the bet or point value of game - one called KRazy Poker - that involves chips.

Tell us about the name "Romanian Pool". [emoji16]

Essentially, it's just because my friend is Romanian and his name is Liv, hence the country's tricolour and his personalised ball on the instructions sheet. :)

Here is an "interesting" VIGMA set that was made with limited release and has a surprisingly great finish to all balls. The weights are within 1% as well as the diameters. They play well and polish nicely. The 8 ball is quite unique.
