Worst instructional video of all time

https://youtu.be/xzb4YonBgqY

The first minute or two is just fine and then the wheels fall off. I made a comment that I thought it was the worst instructional video of all time and now I am getting some flak for that.

So what say you?

Is he actually teaching the correct shot to play in those situations?

No he isn't. There were much, much better ways to play those, and some were just downright beyond dumb, like some of the kicks.

Here is the thing though, you kind of have to keep level in mind as well. The guy is obviously not a good player. On a scale of 1-10 he is probably say a 2 or 2.5 in knowledge and strategy. So while his shots are horrible, they are better than the decisions a totally brand new player who is a 1 would make so in that respect I guess you could say if a 1 copied him it probably would have been better than what they would have chosen to do on their own, which isn't saying much I know. Or to put it another way, while there were always better options, usually much better and sometimes several of them, there was usually at least one choice that could have been worse. Sometimes the right shot is just too much or too "complex" for a brand new beginner to remember and grasp so something like this, while not very good, is at least something they can grasp that might be a slight improvement over what they would have down previously.

I don't know if it's THE worst - but I do think at that level of play it would be better to work on making your shots rather than trying to come up with an iffy safety.

The concept that anyone that bad at making the shot would ever practice those ridiculous safeties is why I gave it The warning I did

Most of these shots are valuable shots, but NOT correct shots for this particular situation. They would come in handy in situations where you have blocking balls etc. He does seem to have an ok technique. He has made several good videos before also, so I'd cut him some slack.

I wouldn't say the worst. There are so many bad ones.:D

Agreed with all postings thus far. But I do like it when people new to the game get all inspired and reach out to share like this person. Practical experience will always out a fault in logic. I am gonna post something too. I just want to settle on something like a primer to one pocket basics or something like that. I think everyone should get something posted about things they care about. Even ask questions about shots or strategies they have trouble with and just read the comments about solutions.

Regards,

Lesh

There are several aspects to the end game that need to be factored in. The skill of the opponent, the difficulty of the table, obviously your own particular skill set etc.

Lets say you are playing on a Valley bar box. Any shot is liable to be made, so you might as well go for it. The table I'm playing on currently is a GC, has very fast cushions, banks short and have 4 1/4 inch pockets...Leaving the weak opponent a long bank may not be such a bad idea on that table, though with quality opponents you are an underdog even then.

There is an even more important aspect to consider, and that is the fact that even IF your opponent does miss, he is not guaranteed to leave you an easy shot! That's the problem of thinking only one move ahead. When you have a long bank close to the side cushion, especially if it's a cut bank, that shot tends to be left safe. So the first shot in the video, even when executed sucessfully, tends to leave the opponent a bank that is essentially free, when it's shot with the right speed. The same is actually true of the leave that made you shoot the safety in the first place. If you shoot that bank and hit it short, it tends to bounce off the long rail and leave the object ball on the middle of the short rail. It's a free shot.

This may be the worst.

Terrible. I was thinking of making a rebuttal video to that one.

The safeties are sound...he just doesn't execute them to the fullest. Thereby selling out his percentage advantage.
What's that old saying........"If the safety is harder than the shot, then take the shot"...?
Something like that.

If league play wasn't slow enough, lets teach players how to drag out the game. It takes 15 minutes for the players to clear all the balls but the 8 and now they push the 8 around for 5 minutes. No one will take any shot on the 8 until it's sitting right in front of a pocket.

Yes it's s bad video

This. These videos are horrible. The video linked in the first post did have some value. Some of the shots are good to know, but are also easy sell outs unless struck perfect, but still good to know.

Pretty Boy did score big with Ewa, probably his biggest hustle.

The first 3 videos are home made bad advice productions. Floyd's video was professionally done and sold on TV, How embarrassing for pool at the time.
