He explains how important it is to get the correct spin onto the the first object ball (ball #2 in European-speak). Amazingly, the editor of Daly's Billiard Book said that such a thing could not be done although he included Daly's instruction to do so.

Texas Carom Club 02-07-2019 09:38 AM

funny that i still cant do it

i was regularly getting 15 easy right after i read hoppes technique in his book i got last yr
i got a 28 once from it,
reverse english on the 2nd and hit below the center of the cue ball to kill momentum in all 3

now i cant get 7, strange thing
even with all the practice and this vid

Texas Carom Club 02-10-2019 03:43 PM

i just seen on dpm`s website hes got a straight rail dvd im gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on

for 30 bucks im sure you can learn something

http://www.3cushion.us/booktapedvd.html

HaiNhi 02-10-2019 05:25 PM

Hey Richard. I see that you've been reading up & practice lots of straight rail.

What's your average and highest run now?

I still don't have lots of time to practice yet. So I'm still at my highest of around 15 (doesn't come often as I wish though), average maybe 3-4. Practice makes perfect for sure. :)

Texas Carom Club 02-10-2019 05:27 PM

oh yes all of last yr i started to take it on seriously, along with 1bande

i hover around 1 average, but havent played alot since because they all abandoned me lol
i just practice gathers and try to make a few points, i think that was deans suggestion

28 is my high run

im going to start going out to play with others across the city
lot of libre gamblers here lol

HaiNhi 02-10-2019 07:33 PM

When re-read my post, what I probably meant was, my average high series are 3-4, not my overall average. Overall average is way below that. Hehe.

My target for the rest of this year is to get consistent on "easy" (balls close together) shots: 1 bank, half table positions, direct carom. Then start practicing on gather shots, and rail nurse.

Around here in San Jose, they don't play for "fun". At least something is at stake. :) Mostly Vietnamese & Mexican players as far as I can tell.

You also changed your signature to mention Royal Pro cloth?

Texas Carom Club 02-11-2019 05:08 AM

Ya i gotta get back to training
Been hooked on 14.1 pool again

Not focusing much on libre, bet i play really good for a little time now!

R.p. yes
Its time for a change

Texas Carom Club 02-11-2019 09:30 AM

My goal is to get a 20 plus 1 cushion run and 30 plus straight rail run on vid
This yr

Texas Carom Club 02-11-2019 02:17 PM

Another great one for straight rail these guys take a position and come up with the best gather from the spot to get a good run after

Has english subtitles

Thank you for this one.

Texas Carom Club 02-11-2019 05:17 PM

he shows and tells you need a 1 inch or less bridge and holding the cue at the balance point
gives the greatest control over speed. for the rail nurse

HaiNhi 02-12-2019 01:31 AM

Hey Richard. You sold your European table? What table you have in your garage now? How Royal Pro affects libre game?

Thanks for all the links. I'm aiming to increase my series in libre, 1C & 3C as well. But I don't have any specific numbers in mind. I will see after each 3 months how much better, if at all, I get. :)

Texas Carom Club 02-12-2019 05:20 AM

hey buddy, 1st 2 videos of this thread i guess are the best ive seen

have amount of hit, and english

they wont be exactly the same but you gotta adjust and feel them to make em
learning the speed is the most critical to these games, speed of hit, amount of follow through, and very precise amount of hit on the second ball are equally critical

Texas Carom Club 03-21-2019 06:07 PM

how could i forgoten this one

alot of gathers shown here, with diagrams and the shot displayed

Even where you hold the cue butt is important!

And grip.

These have been the biggest revelations for me recently.

Texas Carom Club 03-22-2019 09:34 PM

One more piece of advice thats taken me a while to swallow

Many good players have told me don't practice to make runs
Just practice the gathers

Took me a while to understand but i see it now

Unless your going for the 1 cushion challenge, then disregard this :)

Texas Carom Club 03-25-2019 06:05 PM

for 35 bucks a yr, you can have access to the 54 time swiss champions video training archive

he speaks in french mostly, but has a handful of videos in english, he breaksdown runs and gives you insight on how he plays

https://xaviergretillat.com/videos-commentees/

Texas Carom Club 04-15-2019 11:17 AM

Gert jan just added english subs to his latest 1 cushion exercises vid

One thing he says that i kind of discovered on my own
The fuller hit, less to no english is needed
Because itll rotate naturally

Thinner hit use more english
Havent watched it all yet but that part at the beginning was helpful
Hope it helps some of you

Texas Carom Club 04-18-2019 10:15 AM

Gather shot tests thank you jeagle for digging this up
http://wbpb.blogspot.com/?m=1

The days when i sit and do gather shots i will not move to the next one until i can get all 3 balls inside a 1 diamond area, 3 times

Texas Carom Club 04-21-2019 06:54 AM

watching your vid last night, first time i seen your break, thought id share this
yours got to the area, but you want it to hit the long rail on its way to slow it up some

break shot for these games, we try and play position, it can be done, lol if i can you can

the standard break, you want the red ball to stay on that 1/3 portion of the table where you make the point
to do this, its just a half ball hit, driving the red up to around the first diamond on the short then somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd diamond of the long rail, its not a hard hit, use about the same amount of english, want the cue ball to come off right under the 3rd diamond of the long rail as usual
https://forums.azbilliards.com/pictu...ictureid=19059

the red will always be down there,
https://forums.azbilliards.com/pictu...ictureid=19060

its a tight window but can be done regularly, second photo the cueball is above both object balls for a easy next point

Texas Carom Club 04-21-2019 06:59 AM

another option is a 2 rail, which a good player i believe can dial in well
its a little bit more of a half ball hit, no english just some follow on it,

https://forums.azbilliards.com/pictu...ictureid=19061

the results can vary alot,

in the second photo though the cueball is behind the white, but makes for a gather shot

I just seen xavier gretillat post that hes got a trip to vietnam coming up
Will be meeting with thinh kent of course
Vietnam is about to get proper world class technical training

Im sure kent got a lesson with sam as well last yr

If we could only get xavier a trip to the U.S.

Texas Carom Club 07-06-2019 04:10 PM

Something i just noticed
Watching the caudron freegame vid

When hes running the rail nurse
Seems he hits just a little above the horizontal axis to give him the correct spacing between cue ball and ob ball to ensure they aren't too close or frozen

What i read from hoppes book use below center to deaden the balls movement

And Its true
Try rail nurse and use a bit of bottom, kills the ob ball
Then try a bit of follow, gives you a little breathing room

I still cant run them well for some reason but thought that may be a bit of useful info

It still works though
It does kill the balls energy with a bit of bottom on it
