a little secondhand information

A friend had a fiddle made back in the mid-nineties. $30,000, with the goal being to move himself up one chair in a symphony orchestra. Fourth to third or third to second, this wasn't even expected...

seems like plastic

The vault plate is reported by some to be used to take some of the unpleasant vibration out of the cue shaft. I think it is Predator that explains the construction of the REVO in great detail. They...

bar table on the patio

I have a bar table on the patio. Deliberately bought it because they are as tough as nails and passed on a very nice furniture table.

My experience says that the table is too miserable to play on...

issue solved for me.

I just solved the cleaning issue for myself. Ordered a gallon of 99.9% medical grade isopropyl alcohol. I figure a little of that on a paper towel and I will be in business or I can cut it to...

These?

Found some 3x4" wipes that are 91% isopropal alcohol for 32 cents a pop. Isopropal seems much more expensive than ethel alcohol.

Yes, indexing is due to the hit of solid maple...

Yes, indexing is due to the hit of solid maple shafts, especially cheap ones, changing due to where on the grain the major impact is as well as adjusting for warp. I indexed even my straight shafts. ...

old days and old players

There was a time when a player played with one cue, one shaft, even one tip for years. He knew his equipment better than everyone chasing after the latest and greatest and odds are he would beat the...

seen it many a time

People hoard "treasures" for their children. The children have a big garage sale selling the stuff for a few pennies on the dollar and the rest is thrown away. One or two items kept.

Of course...

Taper and wood

A conical taper gives a stiffer hit than most pro tapers. The longer the pro taper the more it vibrates and flexes. There is a fairly happy medium, a quicker rise than pro which is usually one or two...

no problems for me

Some of my wooden shafts were sealed, some weren't. Never had any problems. The wipe can raise the grain a little bit, a firm dry rub lays it right back down. I have used the alcohol wipes for many...

weighted cue ball or sticky one?

If I understand you correctly it would seem it had to be a weighted cue ball or possibly patches of something on the surface of the cue ball since nobody else ever got to handle it.

Changing...

sitting on his Harley

I remember a guy was buried sitting on his Harley too.

Just how they wanted to be remembered or fond hopes of having things with them in their afterlife?

main issue, john and azb

john showed his ass on azb. Embarrassed himself and felt he had to make an apology on here. Making an apology pissed him off so he and his buddy did a little real world physical stalking with an...

a big honking cylinder!

Working from memory but picture a steel sleeve an inch or bigger. the ends went almost to the surface and the middle was quite a bit further away from the surface. Seemed like a poor design for...

Theory is a wonderful thing and can speed along practical learning. However, I have competed at many things including pool of course. Doing so I have gotten my ass kicked many a time by people not...

Might not be a good idea to use lens cleaners

My Cynergy shaft cautions against using water and says alcohol must be at least 75%, leaving out all of the common 70% wipes that are far cheaper than the ones they are selling. I'm still sure there...

There is an axe or two that I am surprised if they are still in the ground.

Wasn't what I expected when the heavy cue ball broke a couple times. It had what looked like a short piece of pipe or a pipe collar in it, a hollow cylinder. Seemed like it would be a lot harder to...

old hustler

Somebody will probably remind us just who it was but an old road man toted his own ball set. He said if you can't get your whole set of balls in the game, at least get your cue ball in it.

He...

This type of hustling was much more common in bars than poolrooms from what I saw. Some of his claims seemed a bit dubious even for bars. However an entertaining read and brought back fond memories!...
