Thank You!

Thanks for the reply!

The table is looking great. Might be too late but a hall in Texas put in all Texas state quarters in the rails. It doesn't cost much for some very nice looking coins. Indian...

a question

The table is looking great!

A question for you, I bought an old dog of a Valley bar table a couple months ago myself. The nail heads are sticking out into the pockets because of the angles they...

probably a slap on the wrist

Just wanted to talk about the sentence. Judging by past sentences for far greater counterfeit product cases, he will probably receive a very minor slap on the wrist plus probation. I doubt he spends...

the zone

First off, a great accomplishment. Worth a sincere if very belated CONGRATULATIONS! My understanding is that Thorsten spent a couple years in the military shooting pool eight hours a day as his job....

reminds me

Reminds me of a major miss. Stopped in a place for a beer with a guy after working very hard all day. We were both very sore and tired. Some guys wanted to play partners pool for a beer each. "OK" I...

the dark side!

It is easy to wander down some side paths when you have a shop. Having designed and built circle track cars and worked in R&D before having a cue shop it was easy to "waste" hours or a day or two...

the reason for the red

Bob, the reason for changing part of the post quoted to red was to make clear what part of your post I was talking about. One section was talking cue ball on the rail, the part I was talking about...

Bob, No offense but object balls on the rail...

Bob,

No offense but object balls on the rail are one of the easiest shots in pool. A funny story, I had set up a shot Gene was talking about years ago. I think the cue ball eight inches behind the...

If it works for you that is all that matters. The ferrule can reduce the impact from a sharp blow to a push for the shaft, joint, and other components behind it but I don't know if it matters a whole...

Good areas to explore

Maybe some of the major suppliers could steer you in the right direction. Perhaps a short fairly thin metal ferrule is as good a bet as any. It doesn't play anything like wood but a short strong...

Just like a rubber grommet

Taking things to an extreme, imagine a ferrule made out of steel and one made out of soft rubber like a garden hose or air hose. The steel is going to compress or flex very little so pretty much...

often not the case even way back when!

Things have always tended to escalate. Dozens of stories from the old days, most forgotten. A man pulled a knife on my dad, my dad pulled out a .44 magnum. The guy settled down in a hurry, no...

A bit of gold there! When we first start playing we focus on pocketing the object ball. However, what we are doing with the cue ball is often more difficult than what we are doing with the object...

sorry! I don't know

The truth is that I don't know. With today's adhesives you would be basically building a capped ferrule with a true right angle inside shoulder I would think.

The shafts with a spiral wood ferrule...

Very Brief is relative!

When you know several books worth, fitting what you want to say on one page is brief! I read enough here to know I would like to take a lesson from you if I played golf and I have never shot a single...

Most improvements were a discovery then long brutal amounts of time to incorporate the discovery. The best took years to put it in my game.

However, a right angle turn that I incorporated into...

I think the answer is both

There have been many matches over the years where playing the player made the difference. I would say that the game being played makes a difference. Rotation and straight pool, more playing the...

true it is mostly ignored, shouldn't be though!

The ferrule is often paid little attention to and can vastly affect the hit of a cue. That thread linked above from 2014 is well worth reading. Some very smart very good cue builders posted in it....

Quality posts best I recall. Seems like you posted much more for awhile. We need good posters to be more active. Every once in awhile a search leads me to reading old AZB threads. Not just the...

I once claimed I was going to start charging for all phone calls that went over five minutes. Even put a sign in my office. I didn't, but it did make people stop a lot of the butter and flattery...

Something of value!

Aside from the pride and pleasure of ownership I think his cues are a good investment, Nothing to sneeze at when I saw today that $50,000 in the bank will draw $2.50 a year in interest!

I think maybe an hour on my big lathe

I think I could make a cue in about an hour on my big wood lathe. Pretty sure it would look like a cue made in an hour too!

Rest in Peace Dieckman, a true one of a kind! I wonder if anyone else...

There are ways to get points with NC but I don't know of any production company using them. The smallest practical tools back when I kept up with such things were 0.030. That means that the ends of...

Adam,

We are getting closer to old schoolers on AZB all the time. Seems every time I look around another old poster has pulled a fade. I don't know if they died or their interest in AZB did, they...

Having ran small shops I can tell you a major time sink is the telephone. If I ever run a business again I will deal with the phone at a set time twice a day. Everything will go to voice mail any...
