    Anyone here make canes?

Okay, now I'm officially an Old Fart. Arthritis now makes it so painful to walk around the table that I've had to cut my practice time from eight hours a day to two or three. Have any of you cue makers ever built a cane for pool players? You know, something that looks like a custom cue so that...

    Anyone use aluminum radial pins?

I want to move the balance toward the butt on a cue. It has a stainless radial pin, and I'm thinking about having that changed to aluminum and then adding a weight bolt in the butt. I don't recall ever seeing the aluminum radial pin mentioned on AZB. I'm wondering if there are any problems with...

    WTB: House in Tucson

I posted this in the wanted/for sale forum, but thought this may also get some attention here. I'm strongly considering moving to Tucson early next year, so I am looking for a house suitable for a pool player (I'm not great at pool, but I can't imagine not having a table in the house). A room...

How to Make Your Lizard Sticky

I've seen several threads asking how to make a slick lizard wrap sticky. I recently picked up a great-playing cue that has a lizard wrap so slick that it's like shooting with an icicle. I use a very light grip and the wrap was so slick that I couldn't use the cue at all. I'll probably get the...

    Suggestions for leather wrap

I'm asking for suggestions for a new exotic leather wrap for a beautiful cocobolo plain jane. I have cues with full-belly lizard and elephant ear, as well as wrapless, linen, and leather. I was going to have elephant ear installed on the coco (I really like the ear wraps), but then I thought...

    Ivory Care

In the last year or so, I have acquired several cues with ivory butt caps, joints, and ferrules. I was once told that ivory ferrules need special care (baby oil, I think he said). Is this true? Do you need to do something to care for ivory ferrules? What about the end of the joint, where it...

    WTB: Old House Rules signs

I'm looking for some old signs for my home room. You know the ones: "No spitting on floor," "No Gambling," "Players must keep one foot on floor," etc. I'm not interested in reproductions. I would like to find some from pre-1960 if possible. Thanks for your help. Howard

    What's under your pool table?

Any Edgar Allan Poe fans? Beneath the table, on the floot Lies my wife's cat, named Eleanor. Merely this, and nothing more.

    Gold Crown V leg diameter?

The foot levelers are 8 inches. The quick set levelers are 8-1/4 inches. The cork on the bottom of the quick set levelers is about 8 inches. I don't have the proper tool to get a dead-on measurement with the table on the floor, so the above may be off by 1/8 inch. -Howard

    Break Cues

This is my newest dead-blow hammer. It is about 35 years old. It's true that the shot in the hammer head moves very little, but that's not the point. My point (and maybe I didn't express it very well) is that the dead-blow mechanism is designed solely to prevent bouncing of the hammer. Because...

    Simonis X-1

When Donny (sdbilliards) rebuilt my rails and recovered the table, he recommended the Simonis X-1. What the hell, I'm a gadget freak. So, here's what I found. Normal table maintenance for me has always been brush every morning and afternoon, vacuum every other day, and wipe with a damp cloth...

Doug Patrick Fully Cored and Threaded

I bought my first Doug Patrick cue last week (pictures here). The cue is 59", with a 29" butt and 30" shaft. The wood, fit, and finish on the cue are flawless. Beautiful figure and color in the cocobolo. Fine attention to detail in construction is apparent throughout, from the alignment of all...

A Big Thank You to sdbilliards

Last week, Donny came and fixed my eight-month-old Gold Crown V Tournament Edition. The improvement in the table is remarkable. To start with, just finding anyone willing to come up here in the middle of nowhere is difficult. I feel quite fortunate that Donny was willing to drive up here. He...

    Ivroy ferrules and hard tips

I recently picked up a nice (Nitti) shaft with a half-inch ivory ferrule. It has a black pad under the tip (Moori medium). I understand that the pad is to protect the ferrule against shock/impact. Is this just a precaution or is it a necessity? I prefer hard tips and want to have a Kamui Black...

    Tight shafts

Wow, this is going somewhere unintended. Royce, Note my use of the quote marks around the word "radial" and the fact that I always referred to the non-UniLoc pin as a "Madison. " I have never seen a cue maker advertise any pin other than the UniLoc as a Radial©. The cues I have bought from cue...
