Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

You are probably right about that. I think it's just forcing you to shorten your bridge length. I have a friend who has to cue and I can tell you that it breaks well. but nothing super incredible.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

The Mezz Power Break 2 is a good example of how the butt of a cue changes the break. They even go into it a little on their website saying, THE UNIQUE PB2 WEIGHT RING SYSTEM ENABLES TO BALANCE YOUR BREAK SHOT AND ENHANCE THE STABILITY OF EACH SHOT The “Power Break II”, with the innovative...

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

I actually play with 1 cue most of the time and interchange between carom and pool shafts. everything in my bag is 3/8 10

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

not sure about the butt diameter but I agree with everything else.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

I took a 6" weight bolt out of the back of my playing cue and love the weight and the balance of the cue. I found that a forward balance was something I really liked. It works for breaking well and playing well. Carom cues are usually rear-weighted cues. Not sure why carom or 3c players prefer...

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

well, snooker isn't a good comparison because the tip size is relative to the ball size.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

Can't remember where I read this, maybe Predators website. But I remember it was once said that a 12.4 tip diameter is the most optimal diameter for pocketing balls. while an 11.8 diameter would be more difficult to pocket balls with yet easier to get spin.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

Not sure how one would prove that. Maybe they would have hit the object ball straighter with a low-deflection shaft while using a ton of spin.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

Fish2 I would recommend getting a few extensions and trying out different tips and shafts. It's easy to overcomplicate how to break better and you can get all caught up in the equipment labyrinth. And most of all work on your break technique. There is probably more value in that than your...

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

There is a reason why beating people with a broom stick was always a ridiculous handicap.

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

Garczar, for the sake of the argument, let's take it to the extreme. How many players would play better with no tip on their cue?

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

I don't think that's true. how would one prove/disprove that? My preference of my playing cue is because I can DO MORE with it than other cues. Or it takes less effort to do the same thing. So I prefer my cue because it does what I need to do better. Same with my break cue. The magic rack...

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

I think it's important because the longer your shaft is in front of your bridge hand, the more power/leverage you have when going to break. Also, I would be surprised if you guys don't move your playing hand and bridge hand for different shots. I shorten up my stroke on short ticky and finesse...

Break cues - Does the butt have an impact?

I've heard this before. In what way does diameter and balance change anything?

Playing up against better players-advice please

Fair enough. I was a bit lazy in my post. What I mean is, if I ask for weight and you beat me pretty easily. I'm going to ask for more later.

Playing up against better players-advice please

Since you can't really tell how much better a player is than you, which is natural. Ask for a handicapped that they are uncomfortable with. When they hesitate to give you that handicap/weight. You will know where you stand with them. If they are comfortable with your first offer. Ask for more.

There's more out there then you might think.

What types of wood are cue butts made of? How do they affect the way a cue hits?

This is so true is some ways and so false in other ways. You wouldn't use a cardboard cue to break with and you wouldn't use an aluminum cue to play with. although I think they're are some variations of the latter that have been sold. My point is the joint material might not be why you missed...
