Best value billiard balls (Aramith Regulation Size Crown Standard)?

The model names (and designs) are different depending on the territory. The Palladium/Rhodium/Vanadium/Chromium sets are the ones for the Asian market, while the Platinum/Gold/Silver/Bronze sets are for North America. (Tungsten is common to both.)

Why? To get to the other side, of course.

That was the center fielder's ball. Always default to the outfielder. And call it dammit!

    Shaw 714 DVD

Less, even. Shellac is a fairly stable substance, and any turntable can still play them so long as they have a 78 rpm setting. DVDs, like all optical discs, will suffer from disc rot in which the layers separate if exposed to widely varying temperatures, and all digital formats are only as good...

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

The maroon is a reddish brown. Which is why a less reddish brown is still pretty acceptable. It always comes down to the basic 8 Crayola colors. And that includes orange. And having those alternate between ends of the spectrum for contrast. The purple 5 is just out of sequence.

Americans - are you happy with what Matchroom is doing with Pool ?

Eh, they're not that big. Same size as the circled number. You can hardly tell from more than a few inches away.

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

The use of the plural "hundreds" implies at least 200 years. Better to just say "over a hundred years". Accurate if imprecise, it's not an exaggeration. As for an exact date, I'd love to know that myself, but it's one of those things about the origins of modern pool that was overlooked back in...

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

I completely agree with the whole "don't swap existing colors onto the wrong ball" part, but the "hundreds of years" thing is, frankly, the sort of incorrect overstatement and exaggeration that undermines the entire argument completely. Until the rise of rotation games the late 1880s/1890s...

    JJ Needs some new commentary

Many of them talk too much. And frankly I find the British announcers the worst of the bunch for that. in all sports. Too much trying to oversell everything and too much talking for the sake of talking. It's not radio, stopping talking for a few moments does not become dead air. Let the picture...

Americans - are you happy with what Matchroom is doing with Pool ?

No, as the World 8-ball is being run as part of the CSI/Predator series (alongside the 10-ball Puerto Rico Open), so it will use the Predator Arcos II set as the recent World 10-ball. Much more traditional looking, with a purple 4 and an orange 5.

Watching professional pool, do you prefer winner break or alternate break?

Exactly. I keep seeing people say SVB wouldn't have had any chance to make a comeback from down 11-4 if there were alternate break. But there being a 11-4 score in the first place is exceedingly unlikely in alternate break in the first place.

Watching professional pool, do you prefer winner break or alternate break?

The fundamental difference is that continuous pool (14.1 or older full-rack) has an entirely different winning condition, namely whoever reaches the agreed number of points first. Only then is the game over. Whereas in rotation games (and 8-ball, for that matter) legally sinking the money ball...

Watching professional pool, do you prefer winner break or alternate break?

Because each rack is a separate game. Rotation games are not straight pool; it's not continuous.

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

For some time I wondered why the balls just don't go in rainbow order, as it's pretty straightforward. Then I realized that the 1 ball is yellow because it's the easiest color to see (hence the tradition of using it as one of the back corners for the initial rack in straight pool). And then the...

    Charlie Williams

As a Giants fan, I remember Ron Dixon. Career was cut short by a knee injury. But did return a kick for a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Mind you, that was the only touchdown the Giants scored in that game; that was the Super Bowl where they got utterly blown out by Baltimore despite setting...

What's the smallest, lightest Aramith cueball?

I believe he was asking about Petanque, not English 8-ball. From my quick search, it appears to be a tabletop version of a French lawn bowls game played on a carom table with a cue. Like other lawn bowls games (such as bocce), the small target ball, called the jack in English, is sent out first...
