Improving home table quality & specs

I measured the mouth size (term used in Dr Dave's video for determining table difficulty) and it is 4.5inch. I don't think any new tables have 5inch pockets anymore, I never seen one in clubs where I am from but might be.

Improving home table quality & specs

Thanks. table already has 4.5inch pockets but wanted to go to 4.25 to be exactly like the ones at the club I am playing at.

Improving home table quality & specs

Last year I was finally able to put an 8ft table at home in my man cave. Didn't have the space for a 9ft unfortunately. I bought a new table from a local supplier (I live in London) and I like it but it is a standard table, none of the big names. It also has standard size pockets 4.5 inch. I go...

    UK - places to play

If you insist on living in the sticks then probably won't find any decent clubs with American tables. Why not put a table at home? I imagine you can get a house with a big garden and build a man cave. That's what I did. All the best places are in London I am afraid.

    Rule I’m not sure about

you can call a safety and pot your ball and it is considered safety and the opponent comes at the table. I think it's called "safety down". Sharivari has a video on his yt channel about this but I am too lazy to search for it.

    Mental is ruining my game

I recently bought an 8ft for my man cave (a year ago) and I am trying to get back into the game (haven't played for a few years), I manage to get about 4-5 hrs a week (on good weeks) but I practice alone. At home I play relatively well but recently I found a weekly tournament where I go about...

Left eye dominant but right handed

Sorry, it seems I understood it wrong. Steve Davis said under pressure he would put right hand english on the ball. It's on the Stephen Hendry's yt channel, the episode with Steve, minute 29. He said that made him miss a lot under pressure because of this but he says it's his grip that caused...

Left eye dominant but right handed

I never cared about my dominant eye and always aligned the cue on the middle of my chin (like snooker players). Recently I tried to do the dr Dave most famous and useful drill of all times and found out that I am putting slightly left spin on the ball. I did this because I recently purchased a...

Moving from Predator Vantage 12.9 to Revo 12.9, 12.4 or even an 11.8. What to expect?

I live in the UK and the most popular joints here are Radial and UniLoc since Predator is probably the most popular cue brand. I have an old Falcon (1990-1991 make) that has a 5/16 x 14 piloted joint. I gave up waiting for a second hand shaft to come in this joint as it is very unpopular here...

Moving from Predator Vantage 12.9 to Revo 12.9, 12.4 or even an 11.8. What to expect?

just went from a 13mm regular deflection to a Revo 12.4. I only tested it before I bought it for an hour or so so not sure yet but I liked it a lot, even the smaller diameter. Picking it up tomorrow from a technician where I took it to fit my butt joint. I don't see why people think this shaft...

    8 ball vs 9 ball

I prefer 8ball but I have to play 9ball and 10ball more often due to circumstances (my weekly tournament favours rotation games).

Help identifying cue joint (pin) type

From what I've seen at the club I play at Predator is the most popular but also popular ones are Jacoby, Cuetec (almost exclusively used with the cynergy carbon shaft), Mezz and some Tigers. Joss is virtually non exiatent here from what I've seen (again, I am pretty much limited to my comunity)...

Help identifying cue joint (pin) type

Thanks for reply. So classic Falcon would mean 5/16 x 14 piloted, correct? Well if I don't know exactly if the shaft would fit or not then I will have to go second hand and see if I can try it before I buy (so no ebay from USA). Might be a long wait. This joint is severely unpopular (at least in...

Help identifying cue joint (pin) type

I have an old Falcon cue (made 1990 or 91), it seems to be a Janette Lee signature series. I always thought it has 5/16 x 14 piloted joint but I tried a Predator 314-1 shaft from a buddy at the pool club that was (supposedly) a 5/16 x14 (with silver ring) and it didn't fit properly. The guy was...

What weight are you using for your playing cue on 9ft tables?

I was wondering the same as you and I removed the weight bold from my old Falcon cue. I weighted the cue with the bolt and it was 21oz, so I assume without it it is probably 19oz. To tell you the truth it doesn't make any difference. Or at least I am not good enough to notice if the cue plays...

    Jump cue vs break-jump cue

I am thinking of getting a break cue and since there are such cues as break/jump cues I was thinking to kill two birds with one stone. Are the jump-break cues lower quality than the ones that are just break and just jump? Do break cues require a different type of tip than the jump ones in order...

    8ft versus 9ft Diamond Pro am (room 17'6" x 14')

I have an 8ft at home because I lacked space for a 9ft. I practice at home and play league games at the club on a 9ft. When you first go to the table I can see the difference but it takes me only a little while to adjust. My space is actually 16.8ft so in theory I would require a shorty when...

Time for a LD shaft but not sure which one

I agree, I really like the feel of the cue and not changing the butt as it looks pretty good too. Only tried two other cues from friends but both were low end cues so can't tell if a Predator or Mezz would feel different. In any case I think a LD shaft would benefit me. I will try to follow the...

Time for a LD shaft but not sure which one

By the way what does piloted and flat faced mean? I couldn't find any explanation on google. The only search result that seems to explain it with pictures is from AZB but it's so old that the pictures attached can no longer be seen. By comparing the 5/16 x 14 piloted joint shown on the Pechauer...

Time for a LD shaft but not sure which one

Thanks for your opinions! Now I am a little worried, I thought that all shafts that match the butt pin would be a perfect match but now that I heard about pilotted, flat faced, overlap at the joint...I will probably try to see if I can get something on the second hand market so I could try it to...
