    Bullet Proof Polymer Tips

I put a Bulletproof break tip on a cue for a friend recently. I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it cut and shaped.

    Jump cue advice

I've had a lot of jump cues and posted on this forum a number of times with my various experiences and recommendations. Rather than rehash those, I'll share a few thoughts. Standard disclaimers apply. 1) Hanshew is a superb jump cue, by far the best wooden jump cue I've ever owned. I would have...

    billiards.colostate.edu moved to DrDavePoolInfo.com

We also had Gandy Big G's just up the road at James Madison University in the student union during the late 80s and early 90s. I know they moved the pool tables to a different location at one point, no idea what they have on campus today if anything. Those were great times NOT going to class :p

    8 ball rules question

The complication in this discussion is the use of the term "obvious". People naturally assume it is used in the sense that "I know what you were trying to do" - using that rational, many banks, kicks, combos, etc. are "obvious". But it is impossible to know or prove what someone else knows or...

A conversation with Anthony Meglino: The best player many people have never heard of...

Anthony hung out in our pool hall for a while a number of years back when he was in our town for work. First time I saw him playing there by himself, I watched him break and run 7 racks of 10-ball in a row. Nice guy, super player, really happy to see him doing well.

    (sort of) Pool Movie

I watched the movie yesterday. I've seen and played Keno but I've never seen it played the way they show in the movie. It's an important plot element, but I also assume they dumbed the rules down for the non-pool-playing audience?

Jump cue preference for sidearm jumping

In my experience, sidearm can be executed equally well with both short and long jump cues. The following is easy to demonstrate in person but hard to describe in writing: one principle that is often overlooked while jumping is that you want to be bent at the waist and align the center of the...

Jump cue preference for sidearm jumping

I have almost exclusively switched to a sidearm jump. I find it a lot less stressful on my shoulder and physically more comfortable. It's also much easier to see where I'm aiming. No change in equipment.

Home Room Size for 9' Table

Here's the math I worked out back in 2017: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/9-table-real-world-room-size-needed.451821/post-5868746 The conclusion then was 19' x 14'10" for minimum acceptable size, but I would recommend larger if you can swing it. 20x16 sounds fine, but you may find...

    Rules Question

Personally I've never used the first one, but the second one comes in very handy. Both perfectly acceptable and legal. Another one I really like when the cue ball is very close to the object ball is the shoulder stroke: rest the cue on your shoulder, pinch the cue near the join with your...

    Rules Question

A legal stroke requires a forward motion (no lifting or brushing). There is no requirement to aim, see down the line of the shot, or have your body in a certain position. So based on what you are describing, yes that would be legal. Definition of a Legal Stroke: General Rules:

    Rules Question

Agreed - I'm sure it was not intended as a limitation, just pointing out that the wording could be misconstrued. In addition to measuring kicks and banks, I use my cue frequently to help envision the tangent line and I can't imagine it ever being considered a foul.

    Rules Question

CSI rules permit you to let go of the cue as well. Rule 1-3-f: This same rule also shows that you can use your cue and hands to measure angles and distances - interesting that it specifies for bank and kick shots, which could be construed as saying it is not legal for other types of shots.

    Rules Question

I thought about that when this thread started as well, and I think the distinction is in those systems you are determining an aim point (which is legal), not measuring clearance (which is a foul).

What Qualified someone as Qualifiied Instructor???

It sounds like you want to have an argument, but you won't get one from me. Every person's body is different and as a result so is everyone's ideal stroke. What's not different are the physical facts that you must stroke on the intended line, strike the intended spot on the cue ball, and with...

What Qualified someone as Qualifiied Instructor???

That is an absolutely fair criticism. Teaching pool is multi-faceted: I personally break it down into instruction and coaching. Instructing is developing the physical side of the game: stance, bridge, and stroke fundamentals, physics, eye patterns, pre-shot routine, aiming, etc. Coaching is...

What Qualified someone as Qualifiied Instructor???

If you possess the following, you are "qualified" in my book: Do you possess insight and knowledge the student does not? Can you explain and demonstrate the principles and physics that govern the lesson area? Can you meet the student where they are in their journey and impart some of that...

Have the rules changed for CSI? This is the most recent version I have: From the "General Rules" section (1.14 section 5):

What tip you do you play with?

I saw this thread pop back up and wanted to give a brief update. I put a Whitten Medium on my REVO 12.9, and the hit was very different (much harder) than what I tried at the Expo. I emailed with Joe and the shafts he had there for demo was a wood cored CF shaft that is apparently not readily...
