    5x10

I have to wonder what 10’ tables Greenleaf won all those championship tournaments on (?). I played on the 10 footers at the second Bensingers basement location, but don’t remember the brand.

    7 breaks not 107 but....

Hitting the pack high & hard with a steep angle works better for me with worn cloth/triangle-racked sticky balls (rather than barreling thru), since you typically end up away from the crowd at table center, but the break ball is thus farther from a tight pocket, and a cross table scratch is also...

    7 breaks not 107 but....

Welcome to my world. You are likely not using a template to rack (like Shaw)😆. When he barges into the pack, they spread like Moses parting the Red Sea. When I do it, they stick to whitey like flypaper.

    Sharking

I’ve never in my life laid down/hid my speed, and I’m surprised anyone would admit to it. I may be gullible, but I believe Willie’s similar claim. Some consider ‘greed’ the best action draw. I have always chosen ‘aspiration’ instead. Everyone wants to say they beat the best. That’s the...

How Pool Evolved from Royalty to Bar Rooms

I would be interested in a societal analysis of why billiards devolved from a truly revered competition sport, to an inane barroom pastime.

Billiards game in the Keys leads to man being attacked with pipe wrench

Right. It’s always a good idea BTW to keep your distance when a sore loser is unscrewing.

Trigger Finger……….Has Anyone Ever Had This Medical Problem?

I had the problem several years ago. Wore a brace for awhile, but eventually had to have corrective surgery. Very minor procedure (the binding tendon sheath is opened). NOW, I have the problem again with (go figure) my actual ‘trigger finger’ (Rt. Index). Worse in the morning. Numbness also...

    Sharking

? When the call is close, shooter gets benefit of doubt. Otherwise, if I observe an obvious foul the shooter does not call on himself (in an unrefereed match), I technically have the right to enforce a penalty. An opponent that disagrees, wouldn’t get another game.

    Sharking

Best defense against ‘sharking’: In an unrefereed match, your opponent acts as referee. Unsportsmanlike conduct usually elicits a warning initially. If said conduct continues, as acting referee, you could declare the match forfeited. Under that threat, most would avoid repeating any actions that...

    Sharking

Others: The result of a coin-flip. Local bar rules. Tournament arrangements. You can create a seemingly innocent (but aggressively contentious) dispute over most anything 😡.

    Sharking

I grew up in a conservative, small, 50s midwestern town, where most everyone who frequented the best room was well behaved and respectful. I didn’t encounter real ‘sharking’ until I started gambling in Kentucky bars while in the army. Most flagrant was a guy who always stood right in front of...

Jayson Shaw’s 832 World Record is Official

I think the obsession re: a total run # has produced a perverted outlook. The object of straight pool is to WIN, and running 150 & out from the break is the epitome, something that seems entirely feasible on the V.B. Diamond tournament tables, BTW. I‘ve always aspired to become a ‘hundred ball...

Jayson Shaw’s 832 World Record is Official

I have to wonder how many promising runs over time (using Masters chalk) were ended with a ‘skid’ (?) Still, likely a minor issue since it takes cue ball cleaning out of the process. But, the way the balls spread when they are racked leaning against each other, is something else again.

Jayson Shaw’s 832 World Record is Official

‘Chalk’ might be an unfair advantage, true.

Jayson Shaw’s 832 World Record is Official

Like coin-flipping a hundred heads in a row, and then pitching it into a tin cup from across the street! Though amazing he surely is, I would still like to see all record runs done with triangle-racking.

    Two-sided ball rack

My ‘cheapskate’ girlfriend claims she is just ‘frugal’.

    Two-sided ball rack

The Diamond wooden rack is oversized, and has side grooves. Very easy to lift without disturbing the balls. For 14.1, when the break-ball is close, I substitute the Delta, which also has grooves. Neither is cheap though. BTW: I find any rack is unlikely to be a perfect triangle, and (assuming...

    Eddie Taylor

On his early 60s exhibition tours, he would typically still beat most all-comers at straight pool by his banking of every shot.

Where Just curious: Where are you located? (I only wish a decent room was as close as an hour to me).

A common mistake also, is hitting the pack too hard, thus driving balls to the rail, and creating more cluster problems. Plus, if a ball has a clear path to a pocket, it shouldn’t be moved (typically), if it can be avoided.
