    Joe Tucker Rules

This is kind of silly... but isn't my worst idea. I've had a lot of fun playing it. Play this on a 7' table. A lot of bars have those plastic electronic dart boards; borrow a dart and unscrew the fins... you're left with a pin you can stand upright. Place the pin in the middle of the table...

Shooting Right Handed With a Dominant LEFT EYE

I'm right handed, left eye. My center of vision is under the left cleft of my chin. I first identify the contact point on the OB, walk towards it with my left foot and apply a little pressure on the ball of my left foot to consciously lock into that point. This helps the high-to-low transition...

    low deflection shafts

Roger, It's conservation of momentum. There are millions of pieces of literature supporting the theory of classical rigid body physics... your singular experience with pool doesn't trump the validity of math. The equation for squirt angle is alpha. As you can see, alpha is proportional to the...

    Joe Tucker Rules

This version of cowboy really made me aware of how and when my brain wanted to create angles that didn't even connect to the CB to the OB contact point, and I would miss a lot of shots! Now that I'm aware of it, I am working on taming it, and play a lot better overall because of it. You really...

    I like this idea

I recently added a step to my shot routine, and that is making a point to consciously notice the space between the CB and OB. What this did for me was give me peace of mind of how much room I can push the tip past the OB, and it ended up slowing down my stroke, removed the jerky/punch, and...

Thanks. I like: "Rainbow" = any one object ball "Kitchen Sink" = any one ball in any order

    low deflection shafts

I think that for those just starting out with the game, learning to apply spin using back-hand-english and front-hand-english (instead of moving the stick parallel to the line of aim) with the combination of an LD shaft, helps you quickly understand how squirt and swerve work. Once you've caught...

Slang term for the 1 and out? What about any one ball on the table?

Holding the cue ball and missing

BRAINWASH!!!! 1. Scatter 15 balls on the table, maybe two to three ball diameters from any rail (closer to rail the harder). Leave them open, no terrible clusters. 2. Ball in hand. 3. Run out without having the cue ball touch a pocket. Best thing for learning how to think ahead in pattern...

Holding the cue ball and missing

Not the case for me. My misses are completely my fault. I change my aim slightly at the last minute trying to "eat" more of the OB with the cue ball. I know how to use spin to suck the hold if I need to. I need to practice recognizing under which circumstances the CB simply must travel...

Joe, what a fantastic success! Real pool working how it should!

Holding the cue ball and missing

That might help. For now I can say that if the stroking line does not intersect both the OB and pocket, then I gotta move the cueball atleast to the center of the table. That might help me get a feel for this a bit better.

    to practice or not

I think that people are better and more creative with their hobbies if they have a lot of them and cycle through them regularly (just like eating balanced meals). Take a break and do something else you like to do, and come back to it. Give your pool-synapses some time to rest; they're probably...

Holding the cue ball and missing

In the past 6 years since picking up a cue for the first time I've come from a non-pool-player to atleast a C+ when playing under pressure. I'm confident and aware of my stroke and body line, and don't need to work on those much anymore. I know I'm capable of A speed (50+ balls out of 100 in 10...

    Improving the game

You can get out of the poking habit by teaching your brain what an accelerating stroke feels like. Right now I don't think it is sure what it is supposed ot feel like. Practice for a few hours by focusing on the object ball as the target for your tip, not the cue ball. When you stroke, try to...

    State Your Weakness Here . . .

Me too. When I don't know where I'm going I try to hold the cue ball too much, end up hitting thick and missing.

Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

CJ, I can see the short-comings of current-day nine-ball, though do you still prefer two-shot/push-out to call-shot/call-safe w/ option? (WPA ten-ball)?
