Pin Yi Ko - The Best ?

I agree...kinda sorta. I don't think he's "the best" but considered "one of the best". There are alot of great pool players right now. I would consider Darren and Shane better than him right now. That's just my $.02. But I have to ask......what does the statement above have anything to do...

    Earl's sword

I wasn't questioning whether he is more knowledgeable or better at the game than the rest of us. I KNOW HE IS. I just wondered if anyone out there knew, first hand, what he's got going on with his cue. I know someone out there knows. If not, I'll just ask him myself when I see him. Thanks...

    alex pagulayan pool cue

Looks like he has several. I know he had the smaller Ultimate Rugged with him at the 14.1 tourney. Maybe he had the big one in the trunk. Don't know. I do know he was driving his mom's car. She told him if he scratched it, don't even come home. Disappear!!!!

    Earl's sword

I agree John. While I'm not knocking him....he IS a great player and can obviously play pool with anything....I just find it interesting. Every time he shows up down here, he's got something else going on.....headphones...earplugs....wrist weights...arm weights.....all kinds of tape on his...

    alex pagulayan pool cue

He has one of each. I think he was using the conventional one during the 14.1 tourney.

    Earl's sword

I haven't tried it....yet....lol. Maybe I need too. On a side note.....I can't be the only one that thinks of Joe Rogan's video impression of Earl when I see Earl talking it up. Can I? Bee Keeper's outfit....hip waders...a$$ weights....lol

    Earl's sword

What is up with Earl's cue these days? Looks like he has about 3 layers of tennis racket wrap on it. Is it still considered a Gulyassy cue?

    alex pagulayan pool cue

His main playing cue is an Ariel Carmeli......for definite. He used it during the American 14.1 Championship and is using it during the US Open. I also asked him if he was going to try to qualify for snooker again. He said <scratching backside of head>....I might ;) Could have been the red...

Alex....glad to hear you are back on the road to recovery. You have many friends and acquaintances here that care to see you well and on your feet again. Myself included. Can't wait to see what you come up with this year ;)

    billiard systems

In my experience.....it's a rare occasion to encounter a 3c player who's an A$$. Different mentality I guess. Don't know for sure. I think most of us are just happy to FIND A TABLE let alone find another player who actually plays. Enjoy the journey my friend ;)

    Mike Dechaine and the rack...?

I think, for the most part, MD does let his cue do the talking. I used to have the same opinion of him before I actually met him. Does he like to talk? Sure. Does he have a certain "air" about him? Yeah. But, once you talk to him, he's a funny guy and will talk about anything. And he's come...

What would you have done differently?

Sam....you're already on the right track. There's lots of good information here and elsewhere. I only wish there would have been the Internet around when I was first learning. I envy all the new players. So much info within thumbs reach. But I am fortunate to have that information available...

    billiard systems

I'd strongly recommend any of Robert Byrne's books and Sid Banner's 3 Cushion Billiard Systems book by far. Sid's book was a great help to me for understanding the diamond system, the various other systems, and tracks on the table. Just my $.02. Welcome to the "endangered" species known as 3...

    Starter Cue suggestions

Every cue manufacturer, that makes carom cues, has an economy line for you to start with. As with everything else in life, it's all dependent on how much you are willing to spend and personal preference. I would start by searching for a good used one on here or the bay and go from there. You...

    Corroborate a story?

I'm in agreement with Bobby here. Tall tale from Shorty if it was him. Hopefully I'll see him this weekend and I will ask him myself. BTW...he does embellish a bit ;)

    Educate Me Please

OP.....Bill is spot on here with the bold statement above. Most cue decisions start with the almighty $ ! How much are you willing to spend. Want versus need. There are lots of things to take into consideration when trying to compare one cue to another, let alone one cue maker to another...
