Whats important in a pool table?

If it were me looking for a table for the house and I "had" to buy a furniture table the last thing I would do would be to buy it brand new. Check Craig's list, Backpage, Ebay and the want ads and you will be able to find one at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Also, odds are that the...

    Charles Thomas Custom

Sounds like a great XMAS present! Speaking on El Paso Cue Makers, Is Tommy Gold still building cues? I lived in El Paso till 1988 and Tommy was the only builder in town that I was aware of at that time.

When did pool become like this?

IMHO - The best lessons cost you money. If you do not want to keep paying up after every rack/set then learn how to beat the other guy or get a spot. Besides, most of the free advice I have ever gotten on playing pool was worth exactly what I paid for it. I am not sure pool is less of a...

Mosconi Cup - Who Did/Will You Vote For?

    I voted for Charlie Bryant.

Ariel Carmelli, Carolina Customs, or Jacoby

All are good quality cues. The AC will probably be the most expensive of the three. I have hit with a Carolina, owned a Jacoby and played a bit with an AC that is owned by a team mate and I feel the AC was the better hitting cue but that is very subjective. My advice would be to look around...

Over-priced Cues - your opinion please!

IMHO. If a cuemaker is asking 2600 for a name and a joint and not selling them it is overpriced. If they are asking 2600 and they have a waiting list then they are not overpriced. The market value of anything is what you can sell it for.

    Advice please

If you call them up before the 15th of the month, you can pick out the dvd you want for that month. I just told them what games I like and they pick one out for me. Every match that accustats has picked out for me has been a winner.

    Greatest cuemaker ever...........

I would have to go with all of the guys that were really innovative and I feel broke new ground in cue building. In no particular order. Rambow Martin Ernie DPK Franklin I also think that Jim McDermott needs to be mentioned. I would imagine that almost all cue collectors have owned a McD...

    The APA can kiss my.......

IMHO - The APA is a business, the players show up play, send in their dues and mostly follow the rules. The guy that owns the local franchise collects the money and kicks some of it back up to National in St Louis. In my area, everyone complains about the sandbagging, poor equipment, low...

    "The Big Ban"

Mike G. has the ban on phenolic tips made an adverse impact on the sales of your jump break cues? The BCA pool league is just one of the amature leagues and the ban from what I can read only applies on a National or State level unless your local league enforces it also. This seems like a...

    What Airport?

Southwest flies out of B'ham direct into Hobby.

    What Airport?

Geographically, Hobby is a lot closer than Houston Intercontinental. I-45 Runs past both airports and dead ends in the Gulf of Mexico in Galveston. Intercontinental is about 45 minutes North of Hobby. Hobby is about 45 minutes North of Galveston. These times are based on Non-Rush Hour traffic...

    Little Motivation to Compete

Jam, Here is a link to the APA webpage: http://www.poolplayers.com/executive_staff.html It shows them listed as the founders and I presume they are the BOD for the league and are probably the largest of only a few stockholders. I imagine that they have done very well with the league and are...

I'm in a little bit of a bind and I need some opinions

Oh yeah, I fergot to mention...Three words... Possible Swine Flu might be a good excuse... They will not want to have been around you or have you in class. If it is your first time to Vegas you will come back home tired with bags under your eyes and looking like you have been out of it for...

I'm in a little bit of a bind and I need some opinions

It sounds like you are going to Vegas no matter what. So here is my 2 bits. You should receive a class syllabus the first day of class. If there is not an attendance policy in place at your college and each teacher has their own, it will be spelled out in the syllabus. If the teacher is a...

    Newer Valley Tables Pocket Size

Hi All, Has Valley changed the pocket size/configuration in the last couple of years on their 7 foot bar boxes? The reason I am asking is that I play in a traveling VNEA league and a couple of the locations we play at have newer tables and they seem to be quite a bit looser (pocket size and...

    Tip Lathe

Hello all, I have been doing my own tips and a few for friends for years with a razor blade, roll of masking tape, some sandpaper and a lot of patience. Lately, I have decided that I would like to invest in a lathe to do tips and possibly a ferrule every now and then. For just a player...

Why do alot of tables go unlevel in just a few months...

A concrete floor can definitely move. If the slab is built upon a soil with a significant clay content you run the chance of having it move. Clay soils expand and contract with different moisture contents and temperature swings to a lesser degree. So if the water table moves up or down or if...
