    CNC Advice

It sounds like to me that you have not started building yet. If this is the case then the CNC machine is not where to start. Now if you want a cnc machine to learn on and then get into cue building that is fine. Too many jump in over their heads and it is money wasted. If you are hell bent on...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

First off the clearpath is not a BLDC. It is actually State-of-the-art, closed-loop, AC vector servo gives you smooth, quiet and repeatable motion and control of position, speed & torque in any direction. Cool, I can copy and past too. Ok, it is hard to compare apples and oranges. Best thing...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Well, it becomes clear with the clear path for a few different reasons. First is the 90 day trial period. Yes I have already tried that and had to return one motor. It was not strong enough to do the job I needed. So question for you George, are you offering the same return policy on your...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Correct again. You seems to have quite a bit of knowledge. I am impressed. I am not sure about Mach 4 yet but ver 3 will not use feedback in any way to correct missed pulses. Printer ports can be the week link in these systems. I have actually tracked back lost steps to the printer port. This...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Yep that sums it up. Personally I have experience with #1 and #4. I am done with #1 on any new builds. I am very happy with #4 and will use that until something better comes out. There are cue makers out there that do use #3 but don't realize that there software is not close looped. By the way...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

My mistake Royce, you are correct. My appologies. I for some reason thought it was 5mm pitch. As you pointed out I was wrong. In that case, the 10mm pitch ballscrew was a great choice. George, any chance you could give a part number on those motors? I would be interested to see the torque...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

George, I am not Mr. Wayne, but was wondering why you would need such strong motors? All of the work is getting done with the large cutter and large and fast spindle. I would guess that those motors are over-sized. Not that it is a bad thing. Are they nema 34 motors? Looks like you need a motor...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

George, first let me thank you for providing good information for conversation. Yes the limit of Mach 3 is 100k. However several people in this community including myself are limited not at 100K but 4Meg. I have yet to see a pc printer port or USB port compare to an ESS smoothstepper. I could...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Ok, got it. You don't actually know the answer so I will have to contact Leadshine. Thats fine as the question I was asking is not an easy one. You can micro step all you want but the actual position count is what I want. I just could not figure out how to ask you without loosing you. For...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Here is your problem. George, in one sentence you claim there is nothing wrong with clearpath. In another you claim they would work great for other applications but not for a router. These statements though I am sure you did not me to counter-dict each other do and make you sound like you...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

George, I am not sure if I have ever quoted myself before, could you please answer my question. I would assume that you are familiar with the motor setup of Mach 3. What is the smallest movement that the leadshine motor can make? I am talking about actual rotation of the motor not the...

    Best "Affordable" 4th Axis

Sir, please educate me on the subject of your motors? They in deed look like a fine setup. Can you tell me, when setting up Mach 3 for these motors how many steps per rev. do you use. If I understand correctly the pulse count is 1000. So it would be 1000 X your pitch? Jim.

    cnc

Yes, this CNC will work for cue building. It is actually the first one I purchased. At that time I had to build my own control box as Gecko had not come out with the G540 4 axes controller yet. I used an older setup. I did not get rid of the machine, instead shipped it to a friend that still...

    Urethane belt needed

I got tired of o-rings breaking and dry rotting. Royce suggested this stuff and it works great. I heated up a raiser blade and stuck both ends on the blade to melt and then pushed the ends together. What ever the price it is not worth loosing endmills when they break. Jim...

    Sherline CNC Question

The short answer is yes. That machine can be used to perform inlay work. It will have short travel in the long direction and may limit the length on your inlays. Also you will want to be able to index the cue some how. Either with a mechanical indexer or a rotary table. Sherline makes a decent...

UltraSkin Tips and me posting on Cue Machinery and Supplies

Thanks for the offer Tom. I will take you up on it. I do grow tired of all the different tips repeatedly being offered and not just from you. It is ironic that this thread of yours is actually still another advertisement for your tips Good luck none the less. Jim.

    cnc, mach, and the vfd

M5 will only turn off the spindle if set up correctly. If you want to change the rate that the motor stops it will all be left to the setup of your VFD. Sometimes you can add an external braking resistor to the VFD to help stop quicker. Jim

    BobCad Stuck Can't Radius

Royce hit the nail on the head. Either that or what jake suggest will work as well. One thing to keep in mind once you do either you will not be able to edit the text.
