Is Predator's move into every aspect of pro billiards really a good thing?

Oscar mentioned it. Didn’t know if that meant if Brunswick was looking at changing their manufacturing. Guess not.

I don’t know. Brunswick is developing a new table and I don’t know if they are doing that one differently or staying with the same manufacturing. I’m no insider. Is the new Predator Arc going to have a 7’ model? My guess is Yalin could do a better one than the current model.

Is Predator's move into every aspect of pro billiards really a good thing?

I don’t think you will see Predator buying or contracting with Brunswick If that is what you mean. Just a guess. My criticisms above were of the tables. Predator gets better products from other manufacturers iMO. The balls are Aramith and are good. I don’t like the logo and the one number...

    Funny pic/gif thread...

We had that at the pool hall back in the day. Dads’ day to babysit. A group came in with two loud and active ones. House man and I trying to smoke and play gin in peace. Kids out of control, requests by houseman etc…. Kid was running top speed and must have not seen the pinball machine right in...

Is Predator's move into every aspect of pro billiards really a good thing?

My opinion is the opposite. I haven’t played on their 9’. The 7’ I thought exuded cheap. They play meh. I about cut a finger on the corner of a cushion. I wondered how cloth and rubber can do that. I think Diamonds and Rassons are both better. I think I’d rather have a Valley. Valleys are...

    Vegas Mixed Dubs

There was a moment in that match where Chou called an extension while Chang was down on the shot about to shoot. it looked like he wanted to pull the trigger quick and not burn the extension. He was surprised to hear the extension called. He handled it fine but it was sort of funny. I’ll leave...

Was there for part of it. We were joking with Chou never missing a ball but her partner never gave her anything but a 2.5 foot stop shot. That guy as your partner adds at least 100 to your Fargo. 😜

    Pros and Cons Gambling

Marginal utility I think it’s called right? The reason I sometimes buy a lottery ticket. I know it isn’t a good bet and I don’t buy many. But $3 doesn’t mean much to me. If the jackpot is 500,000,000+, well, that means a lot to me. And my kids and future grandkids maybe. The money for...

    billiards.colostate.edu moved to DrDavePoolInfo.com

If my post was ambiguous I am sorry. I don’t think you suggested pool should be the focus. I disagree to an extent with you on the criticism of the university. I think it would be nice if pool was part of academics as when Dr Dave was teaching. It would be nice if there were a pool room like...

Had moved from CO by ‘97 and was busy. Didn’t pay attention to that flooding. Too bad that happened. Looks like CSU has done a good job with new buildings and such.

How do these diamond tables play so badly? vid

I am a little more positive on Diamonds than you. But I tend to think that gold crown conditions were good. I don’t always get the infatuation with Diamond. They play fast and bouncy and tight and are basically the standard now. So you have to accept the conditions and play. Sometimes I wonder...

    billiards.colostate.edu moved to DrDavePoolInfo.com

CSU used to have a nice pool room. You know, the Gold Crown era of student unions. Looks like with the new buildings it is gone. Maybe Dr Dave can comment. That said I wouldn’t knock CSU too bad. Pool can’t be the university’s focus. I’ve always liked Ft Collins and the campus. Didn’t go...

The Valley Cougar magnetic I’m pretty sure. Magnetic in any event. The balls seemed to match. Played in a bar table tournament on diamonds last week with mismatched balls. No good. Diamonds were revolutionary in that you could use good balls. Why bother if you have horrendous balls. Also had a...

I recently played a league match on Valleys. I hadn’t played on one in a long time. They were actually in good shape, new cloth but not Simonis. The newer pockets that aren’t 5” but aren’t Diamonds. The rails were good. It played different from a Diamond 7’ but it played fine. Sometimes you...

Interesting. Your preferences are different from mine. You’ve played way more of the CA courses, but I’ve played a few tough ones. The course that I enjoyed the most was Ballyneal shortly after they opened. No tee markers, no trees, no OB, no water, no cart paths. Presents difficulties and...

I didn’t watch much, but the thing about golf is weather changes. So the pros got two different experiences and so did the fans. Penal golf is ok once in a while, particularly at the US Open. But not always IMO. There is a reason Riviera is ranked higher architecturally than Torrey Pines. I...

Some good points. Do you know how the WPA events compare. The biggest factor leading to parity in pool is probably match play itself. Anytime relatively close competitors play a match of a limited duration there is variance. Pool probably has less than some other sports. Not sure. Double...

You can set the conditions so that the top few win at the highest percentage possible. Or you can have more balanced competition, more parity, and the money getting spread around a little. The idea is that the popularity and profitability put more money in the top players’ pockets over time...
