Joss Pool Cues: A Labor of Love

I'm now the new proud owner of a Joss. I replaced my Black Boar after twenty years. I first met Dan about 50 years ago when he was the house man at the Plaza Billiard Academy in downtown Baltimore. My Dad was the manager and hand-sliced hot brisket on rye sandwiches piled two inches high...

    Toby Sweet

He was the only road player to win money from Benny's Cue Club (Gentleman's Cue), near Baltimore, without being armed. All them rich Jewish guys loved him. I got to meet Toby when he was playing Russell Parsons in Delaware. I noticed that his shaft was as smooth as glass. I asked him how he...

So many tips, so hard to decide on which one to try!

I've not yet found the perfect cue tip. The layered tips are consistent but limited. A new leather tip is great for spinning the cue ball but soon get hard and mushrooms and needs to be changed. My friend swears by Elkmaster.

    Time to Revise 1Pocket Rules

60 second shot clock with two time outs, for streaming. Your all a bunch of one-pocket sicko's for making me sit there for over five hours to watch the finals. At least the commentary was worth the price.

    Cyclop Balls

It's just WRONG to change the color of pool balls. Both the commentators and the spectators were confused.

Fair market value for my Dad's cue

Thanks for the link. It's the "Carlton". I didn't pay the $5 to get their blue book value.

Fair market value for my Dad's cue

I'm sorry I don't have a picture. Here's a description: A 60” Adam cue built in 1975 especially for Aaron. It is 2” longer than the normal cue. It has four mahogany colored points with three layers of veneers, and an Irish linen wrap. We had it refurbished to pristine condition just before...

    What Cues shaped History?

I loved my 59" Black Boar. I sold it after twenty years for a large profit. A true "collector's" cue.

I would cut it in the corner with phenomenal spin that I can now impart with my new Outsville hybrid M.

Why buy a cue that is over $300?

Dan Janes says, "Their is no such thing as a Joss production cue". He says his cues are made side by side with like designs. This way he can meet the demand for his high quality cue at a reasonable price. He will occasionally make a one-of-a-kind cue just for fun or if there is a special...

    Outsville Tip Drawing

After two weeks, I find the Outsville Hybrid R&D M plays better than any layered tip I've tried. The only tip that comes close to it's "playability" is a new Champion tip before it mushrooms.
