Are some players better than others at getting in the zone?

That's the million dollar question. Once a player is consistent in striking the cue ball accurately then the game switches mostly to a mental stage. Personally, several years ago the stars aligned right in my game for about a period of 3 months where I went on a tear and won several tournaments...

Send Mike Wong to the U.S. Open

Nice job stepping up Mark. I'll be rooting for Mike. I don't get all the hate when someone comes to AZ about sponsorship. If you aren't interested then just move along. The only caveat that I see is if someone isn't being honest about it (double dipping, etc) then blast away. This sport is...

A "new way" to grip the cue

Nice analysis, when I took lessons from an instructor one of the issues he noticed was unintended English when drawing the cue ball. The culprit was a tight grip that strayed my stroke offline ever so slightly. You can diagnose this problem by looking at your backhand after stroking, are your...

What city has the best weekly tourneys ?

Kansas City area isn't bad, you can find tournaments every night of the week and couple on the weekends. There are excellent once a month tournaments at different locations every Friday that add around 300 per event. There is a rated tour that is handicapped held once or twice a month that Doug...

Idea for a video that I would buy.

A lot of my misses especially easy shots are due to lack of focus. Example, I'm shooting an easy shot but the cue ball control is a little bit tricky. I sometimes will take for granted the shot and concentrate on the cue ball only. I take my eye of my target and miss the shot. It happens enough...

Just in case anyone was looking

I'm thinking about switching hands just so I can play with it. Such a deal. Maybe I can play with my regular cue and then use this one when that left handed shot comes up? Damn, wish I was closer to Hartford.

The Average Salary of a Professional Pool Player

I agree with you Jaden. If I want to put in the effort, and have done so in the past, I can grind out anywhere from 150 (bad week) to 500 or more just playing weekly's. It can get awfully monotonous playing weekly's but there are enough around this area that I can play every night and twice on...

    Cathead "steve shaw"

I remember Steve coming out to Raytown Recreation. This had to be in mid to late 80's before Shooters opened up in Olathe. He played Rick Thompson 20 a game 9 ball and they played a few games then Rick pulled up sensing a trap, I think Steve was a game winner. I told Steve about an excellent...

What pro player still plays with a Meucci

I'm glad to see Meucci back to sponsoring players. It's a win-win when the industry sponsors pro and amateur players. A year ago no one was really talking about them, and now with their marketing strategy they are back on the map.

    Pre-Shot Routine, help please

I would get into more detail about eye patterns. Generally, if you are taking practice strokes look at the cue ball and then back to the object ball when not stroking. Before the final stroke look at the object ball and watch the cue ball at a minimum hit the contact point on the object ball.

I guess it's time to hang it up.

I know of a gentleman that was a top player in the area. Big gambler and a top notch on the bar table. Due to age and some other health issues, his game went down quite a bit. He had a hard time making a bridge, but he made it work. He still played a decent game and was very smart in matching...

    Pool on FOX Sports!

Awesome interview! It's grass roots efforts such as this one and of course all the other tours that keep the sport kicking. I've always thought that a good and fairly inexpensive way to promote a tournament and tour is to create a nice program with bio's of the top players and send this with...

Video Documentary - Gambling, Pool, Poker and More

I had the honor of watching Slim in action several years ago. He set a trap for the owner of a local room. The owner was a pretty good player and Slim trapped him in a one pocket game getting weight. I think the game was 9 - 6. I remember the bet which was 3000 and it was a race to 7. You could...

What player do you model your game after?

I heard George passed away maybe 5 or 10 years ago of a heart attack. He was always a good gin player but I heard he got into playing poker.

    Grip/Stroke/Stance fundamentals suck

I think seeking a qualified instructor to develop good fundamentals would be beneficial for you. Mark Wilson has a really good book "Play Great Pool" that really covers the fundamentals. His view on the stance is different than taught by many instructors. As far as your grip, after you have...
