What player do you model your game after?

I really enjoyed watching George Brundt who was out of Wisconsin play. I was a kid when he came into Raytown Rec and played one of the top players in the City "Elwood" Rick Thompson. George gave Rick the 7 ball and beat him. He was smooth and had a slow but rhythmic style that I tried to copy.

    Fitness in Pool.

We can agree to disagree. This game/sport is very complex and even the "top" players can still improve and I think physical fitness is an area that can have an effect. Not saying that unfit player can't play but they may even play better. When you are talking about top play every little...

    Fitness in Pool.

Being able to compete at top levels in pool and be in good physical condition isn't exactly a deal breaker, Buddy Hall, Steve Mizerak, Tony Ellin, etc. have shown that being in top physical condition isn't necessary to a top level game. But, I think those players might even had been better if...

Refusing to adjust weight when you're ahead...bad form or not?

Good points, everyone plays the game for different reasons. Whether socially, economics, improvement, competition, etc. or a combination above. If you want to be in continual action then shearing the sheep might not be the best recourse. Yeah I can agree with you. Just like KD explained, it...

Refusing to adjust weight when you're ahead...bad form or not?

This is one of the reasons I don't care to gamble at pool. I have nothing against gambling at the game but I've seen players want to adjust in the middle of a set. It used to be, make the game and play. If you lose, then quit and make an adjustment the next time around. To those that think...

    Dennis Orcullo - Bad Form

Tate that is one bad a@@ looking bike. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, there is an old saying "Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser." I have known many players that really get upset when they lose and that helps fuel their motivation not to lose. On the other hand, if...

State Champions - Do we agree on status?

One of my favorite tournaments of the year is the Missouri Amateur State 9 ball (there used to be an 8 ball version too). You have to be from Missouri to play and have a valid ID. It's on the 9 foot tables and around here (KC area) almost all tournaments are on the bar table. The format is also...

    9 ball - Instruction material

Just what I was thinking. Check out Bob's book "The Pro Book" which talks about drilling shots that come up again and again in 9 ball.

The real reason Mike Dechaine withdrew from the World Straight Pool

The thing that saves Charlie is that the sport doesn't have many options when it comes to professional pool. The pro's don't have a lot of choices when it comes to events. I'm not a big fan of Charlie's (personal experience at one of his tournaments) but he does run events for better or for worse.

Why are pro pool player so afraid to gamble?

+1 I always laugh when someone calls someone else a NIT. What's the goal in gambling? To win the money. Generally, a pool match is decided before ever hitting a ball in the negotiation. The players wolfing on facebook either think they have the advantage or are being staked and essentially...

    Proof that fundamentals aren't important.

I think we can all agree that BCA Hall of Famer Bustamante has the credentials. But with that said, if Django did have better fundamentals then he might even have had a higher potential which is scary.

    Proof that fundamentals aren't important.

I think the days of big money playing against an unknown are pretty much over. Technology has taken care of that. Not many players will step up in the box without having a line. A few years ago I played in a tournament in Quincy, Illinois. There was an Asian player that nobody knew. He was...

Do Most "B" and up Players Need Drills?

I have mixed feelings about this thread. Over the years, I've seen players make leap and bounds in their game due to gambling as SJD recommends. The reason I believe is because the money forces the player to focus much more than just practicing. So, the gambling player will play more focused...

    Who are The Hustlers?

I just watched the first two episodes and thought it was pretty entertaining. The market for this show isn't pool players but the general public. As far as it hurting the games image, the Color of Money started a boom that lasted over 20 years basically doing the same thing. Can't wait to see...
