How common are break cues amongst avid amateur players in the US?

I think most that play in the states use a break cue. With the advent of the racking templates, using power isn't needed. Most tournaments and leagues that I play we still use a standard rack so hitting the break with power is sometimes needed. It's good to have the right tool for the right job...

    The Driller!

That's terrible news. I had the privilege to watch him gamble in Olathe years ago and got to play him in a New Years Day tournament in Chanute KS just last year. Nice guy and good player. RIP "Driller"

    Billy Thorpe gone wild!

Good point, but I'm guessing that they don't want to go down that road again. So any future sponsored players are paying for Earl's sins.

    Billy Thorpe gone wild!

Billy made a mistake that happened to be caught on stream. I've personally witnessed a few times involving a some pretty well known players that if recorded would have been this damaging and even worse. The issue is that today, everyone has a video camera in their pocket and this was being...

    Billy Thorpe gone wild!

I'm giving Jay props on this. I went and played in the 2010 US Open as a bucket list item. I was in the stands watching an Earl match. Earl kept turning around and interacting with the fans in the stands. Of course the crowd egged Earl on and it was a constant back and forth while his opponent...

Is the National Billiards League legit, or a scam?

It's been my experience that new tournaments and leagues will have growing pains. The few times I went to a "new" event and invested time and money they all had issues. Hence, I'm leery trying out new tournaments from past experience. I hope the best for the NBL and it looks well thought out and...

Understanding Aiming as a Shot Picture

Phil Capelle brought up the term shot picture in one if his books (I think Play your Best Pool). When I did some instruction, I used this term when working on aiming. I always mention that there are several methods to aim but I still believe that most top players aim by experience and "see" the...

    Another Gimmick Or Legit?

It reminds me of Joe Tuckers 3rd eye training tool. It possibly could help train players to hit the center of the cue ball. 35 seems a bit high :) wonder if it includes shipping and handling?

The Problem With Fundamentals & Mechanics

I'll take a shot at it :) 1) Ask the question is your stroke is repeatable? Can you hit the center of the cue ball at different speeds and still hit the center? If yes don't sweat the elbow. Beginning players should be taught to a pendulum swing because it's easier and just as effective as the...

Does the 9 ball ghost have an approximate Fargo rate?

I agree with them. I'm at 650ish on the Fargo scale and can beat the ghost on a bar table, break even on a bigger pocketed 9 foot, and can't quite get there on a tougher 9 footer.
