Battling Bar Table Legend MATLOCK with Wade Crane and CJ Wiley

Thanks for the story CJ. I love hearing about the old road stories. I sweated a lot the match when you and Jimmy Wetch battled it out for over 30 hours at Shooters in the 90's. Luckily, I've known Dave for years and got to watch him play at Shooters in Olathe when he was in his prime coming up...

    Short backswing

There is a bit of a trade off using a shorter stroke. It's a bit tougher to generate power. Using Allen Hopkins as an example, he wasn't going to win any draw stroke competitions but he knew his game and created angles that he could use to get position. He was a Hall of Famer, different strokes...

    Old McDermott Cue Making video.

Pretty cool I've never seen this video before. As others have said, the D series was the bomb and I owned several of them over the years. Another interesting note, the two players were Mark Wilson and Peg Ledman which I believe were sponsored by McDermott for awhile.

amazing draw by Jeff De Luna

Wow, great shot! Corey has one that rivals it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVDrZK6VpuU Fast cloth and good stroke makes it possible.

    Drills or games?

I think it's a combination of both. Use drills to work on weak areas of your game that you see crop up during competition. Hitting shots over and over again can help you learn faster vs. just seeing them when they pop up during competition. Keep your practice sessions short when doing drills (20...

What is the longest someone has played pool?

Personally, I'm not a big gambler so my longest money session was only 8 hours but I've seen Jimmy "the kid" Wetch play some 30 hour + sessions years ago against good players such as Reed Pierce, Shannon Daulton, and a few others. His game stayed pretty strong the entire time.

the side pockets are deadly for me. 40/60 chance

It could be just mental. You missed a few and started to lose confidence in the shot. Double check your fundamentals. Quality stroke? Staying down? Quiet Mind? (oh there is that damn side pocket shot I'm going to miss), etc. If that's not the issue, then you might have lost the "shot picture"...

Is breathing a specific way important or overkill?

There is a audio program about then mental side of pool called a mind of steel. It has some good info. https://drstankovich.com/products/downloadable-mp3s/ He talks about one of the way to help with nervousness is to take a deep breath before shooing. It has some good practical tips concerning...

    The slow play

One of my pet peeves in playing league is against lower handicap players that feel if they are not taking their time they aren't giving it their best shot. So, a 2 or 3 will look at the shot then get back up again, walk around the table and then fire the ball into the rail. Remember the ole...

TSA not allowing cues on planes?

Pick up a travel case that fits over your playing case. I've traveled dozens of time over the years and the only hiccup I had was going into Newark NJ. My cues didn't come out of the baggage chute. I looked around and there was a small room with a sign that said oversized baggage. I checked in...

    Walkaway Joe movie

I noticed that too. It's symbolic to him not following his Dad's footsteps. What's the phrase - being good at pool is a sign of a misspent youth?

    Walkaway Joe movie

Just finished watching it. I will say that Joey A got some pretty good screen time. Its' a bit of a stretch for a story line but it did have some named actors in it. The pool scenes had its moments then it would go to the standard unrealistic bank shots for drama effect as with most pool scenes...

Tournaments that are handicapped, and run a Calcutta / player auction

That's one of the problems when playing in a handicapped tournament especially when there is a calcutta involved. I don't blame tournament directors that will handicap unknown players on the high side. Let's see piss off the out of town player that may never play in another tournament again? or...

    Instructor or pro player?

I vote for the instructor. As an APA 3, the goal is developing a repeatable stroking motion through learning solid fundamentals that pertain to your own body type. As several stated earlier, communication is key. There are a few pro level players that are also excellent instructors so you could...

The GLENN Collection / Museum- I see Different peopl

I think that a combination of a physical hall of fame, cue/historical museum, and maybe even a pool room would be great for the sport. I just don't know it it would be able to be fiscally viable. Maybe if it was subsidized by the industry somehow. I know there are some very financially sound...

    Heartbreak pool movie 2019

Here is the link to watch the movie. https://tubitv.com/movies/489061/heartbreak Here is my limited review. The cinematography was actually quite good. The story line wasn't terrible but it was over the top cheesy and too much drama and acting. But, I could tell whomever made this movie was a...

A new pool movie perhaps, Walkway Joe ??

Yep, it was in a limited theater release for a week. I decided to do a road trip just to get out of town for the day and went to see it in the theater. The closest city it was showing was in Omaha about 3 hours away. What the hell, I drove up to see it in the afternoon and was the only person...
