Drill,plug and then turn down the plug to fit? I think the way you did it would make the shaft shorter

If you want to do just tips. The mini-lathes (HF ect) would be good enough. Just need a way to make a rest for the back of the shaft.

Depends. some people just cant-not mechanically inclined at all

Mid america and cuesmith are both taig based lathes so alot of stuff might be interchangeable
