    Top Ten Pool Players

I point here to Efren vs. Earl. No one cares that Earl beat Efren for a World Title (I also think Earl has a winning record against Efren in 9 ball tournies, maybe AtLarge can confirm), but the defining match those two players had was the Color of Money challenge match. It's Efren's ace in the...

I suppose that does depend on what a specific player values more, but the older mentality did value who was the best "backroom" player more than who was the tournament champ. The prevailing thought being anyone can win a short race tournament and you don't get a guy's best game over that short...

Relevant to what? Anyhow, like the other guy said, provide some evidence older players missed more. The guys in the know on here who sweated these guys and who also sweat modern stars (not just in these short race tournies, but over 8 hours or more longer sessions) will tell you that older...

Useful 8-Ball Drill (OB over pocket)

Nice. Been looking for a good drill to practice this all too common situation.

Ko may very be playing the main rotation games at the highest level ever (although we have no way of measuring and quantifying that idea), but that doesn't mean today's players are generally better overall, as you stated earlier. Take it from Jay, who's sweated them all in long gambling...

I agree. Pool is an offensive game, and I'm actually against the overly tight pocket movement. For the professional tournaments, though, I'm against the Magic Rack, rack your own, and Simonis 860. On the fence about jump cues. That thief Kevin Trudeau had it right with bringing back nap...

For us, yes, but top pros deal with pocket size much easier, and what typically hangs them up is losing the cue ball or having a tough layout. 17-0 is great, but Lassiter, Crane, Mosconi, guys who've run hundreds of balls would be easily capable of it as well. I think Lassiter has strung...

I'm not saying either generation was better. But you are flat out ignoring the very hard fact that equipment has driven much of the "skill" evolution you think is attributed to the players when in fact it's attributed to the much easier tournament conditions. Don't focus too much on pocket...

    Top Ten Pool Players

Nope. Bustamante won his only 9 ball World Title in 2010, which is of course the modern pool era. In the 90's, he couldn't beat Efren, Earl, and the other top PBTA pros for major titles, and that's when he was in his physical prime. Kiamco was a middling pro in the 90's. Now is one of the...

    Top Ten Pool Players

Pocket size is a non factor if the rest of the table conditions are piss easy, which they overall are in today's so called "evolved" game. And it also depended on the tournament in question. The toughest 9 ball world championship table I've seen was the in the 1994 Finals: A Diamond with 4.25"...

They're not. Today's players only "seem" better because the equipment is far more forgiving and is overall more technologically advanced (low deflection shafts, jump and break cues, etc). Someone will bring up the reduction of pocket size. I don't care. The reduced pocket size doesn't offset...

    Fitness in Pool.

Indeed it does. It's why Ernesto (who works a relatively demanding day job as a pool table mechanic) can still play with anyone in the world, and why Buddy Hall is probably driving around a Rascal.

Fargo Ratings: World Top 35 --8-1-15

Indeed. The WPA rankings are a joke, calculated over only 14 events and they don't seem to be continuous, simply resetting after every tourney year, unlike golf and tennis.

Glasses aren't just for the vision impaired

I need some pool playing glasses in a serious way. It doesn't look like the Gunnar frames are big enough for players who like to get down near the shaft of the cue. If you sight that way, you need some massive frames, like Karen's. Any one out there have any suggestions? Seems like...

2015 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

True, but make sure to keep a record of your total games won/lost. If you beat the ghost 7-0-7-0 but then lose your next 3 sets 7-6, 7-5, 7-5, you still "beat" the ghost, even though you lost more sets. See how do on this drill, I find it to be pretty accurate in rating a player's offensive speed:

Nice. I don't think B's could beat the ghost, either. You can probably consider yourself an "A player" on your home table.

Sprinting and marathon running are entirely different sports requiring totally different physiques and training methods, even if they are built around the core aspect of running. Curry is world class because he can perform at his best for 4 quarters. If the could only shoot lights out for one...
