    Minor dent repairs question

Just a follow up to this post... I spoke with Andy Gilbert, and he advised that I first try buffing out the indent with car polish. It was partially successful, but the mark still irked me enough to send it back to him last week. I just received the cue back this morning, and the mark was...

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

I'd be happy to get stuck with any Gus, BS, Schick, or similar cue, "good" workmanship or not (so long as it hits like a dream!). All cue-makers go through developement phases during their cue-making careers, so slamming any of them for early works can be disconcerting to many collectors...

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

While I do prefer that the cue maker scrim everything on a cue he signs, I also know this isn't always possible nor feasible. My newest cue required somewhat minor scrimshaw work, but the cue maker I selected didn't perform scrimshaw personally. He outsourced the work, and I was still very...

    New Mike Webb cue

You can post big pictures by using an image hosting site like www.photobucket.com, then linking the URL's back here and enclosing them in . You have to shrink the picture to fit on a single screen. This can be done with MS-Paint (which comes with all Windows) under the menu items...

    Cored forearms vs. solid

Andy Gilbert is another cue maker who uses full splice construction. His point work is superb. The cue I just received from him has the best hit of any cue I've tested so far.

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

Ah, got it now, thanks for the clarification :) I can see why SS joints on ebony forearms would look wierd...

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

Eek, my new cue met 3 of those no-no's! (lizard wrap, silver rings, + SS joint on an ebony/ivory cue) :(

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

Lol, I ran into this issue with my new cue. I considered real ivory for a butt cap, but given its fragile nature, I decided to go with something more durable. EDIT: This is also the same reason I went with SS joint over ivory.

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

OK, here's my list of preferences/dislikes: Prefer: -Ebony/Ivory cues -matched point wood with butt sleeves -highly figured bird's eye maple forearms -black iguana-skin leather wrap -razor sharp high/low points, which point lengths being even at each respective level -sharp cornered inlays...

What Do You Hate To See In A Cue?

Totally agreed here. While I don't care for notched MOP diamonds, ivory diamonds looks a LOT better, especially when matched with an ebony background. Here's my Gilbert's ivory diamond:

What pool stuff do you want Santa to bring?

I got my Christmas present about 1.5 months early (2 weeks ago) when my Andy Gilbert "Isis" cue came in (ordered back in April, linked in my sig below). I'm still grinning... :)

    Minor dent repairs question

Sounds good. Thanks for the advice :) My Gilbert cue (url in my sig) just arrived two weeks ago and only has a single minor mark. I'd better wait until it gets a few more war-wounds before sending it off for any refinishing. ;)

    Minor dent repairs question

I have several cues which have minor dents at the forarm and butt sleeves. What's the easiest way to repair them? Should I attempt using a spray-varnish and apply several coats over the dents with masking tape, or just send the cues off to be professionally refinished? These dents are very...
