Is your best game one you actually don't prefer?

No doubt, 9 ball has a few wild cards in the deck, and the role of luck is reduced in 14.1. There's still a measure of luck in how the cue ball opens up the rack. Guys like Mosconi could minimize the variables and also guarantee that they had a good option so they could fix any variables that...

    Interesting article on over-training

I had the week between Christmas and new years off and put in about 6 hours a day. Shooting and practice. It was amazing how sharp I was. Unfortunately I can't maintain that schedule.

Kick safe off the break or roll out

It depends on who I'm playing. If the guy is a strong bet to run out, I'm kicking.

weight in one pocket, what to do?

I played an old timer in one pocket. I knew he could whip me but it's cool to witness how an experienced old school guy can control the game, and learning the etiquette and things. That was worth the $20 he took off of me. I need to track him down so he can show me how to play 14.1.

Bumping into balls is also necessary to manufacture a break ball. You'll still get a lot further with skills than without. And understanding the likelihood of different lucky outcomes is a skill in itself.

    "Clean" 8 Ball

Yeah, you can almost feel when there's to much testosterone in the air and know some stupid stuff if about to happen. It's like when a gas leak reaches the explosive limit abs a small spark will set it off. Wow. Some times I see people who want to play for $50 a rack and think "this person does...

    "Clean" 8 Ball

You gotta hit 'em with a little je ne sais quois if you really want to establish dominance.

Is your best game one you actually don't prefer?

Especially if the balls are close, it's a good way to stop the cue ball.

Some guy codified it and calls that texas one shot. It's fun to play different games because you have to think differently and they emphasize different skills. https://www.tx1shot.com/rules-howtoplay

    "Clean" 8 Ball

That's peak chicken shit. But they think gaining an advantage by screwing up is is good pool and gaining an advantage by your opponent screwing up is chicken shit. Being able to scratch and penalize your opponent by making him shoot out of the kitchen always stuck me as a clear flaw in the...

Drop pocket vs. gully... what is your preference and why?

I prefer drop pockets for most practice, I can keep several balls in a pocket so they are convenient yet out of the way. If I'm playing a series of games, where the balls will be racked, I'd rather have a ball return. It seems like there's always one ball hiding out at the bottom of the pocket...

Refinishing stained cue. Risk of sanding removing the stain?

Is the stain terminology consistent? I've seen stains that are similar to tinted transparent paint, and some that soak in like oils, and dyes that fully soak in and do not actually leave a "finish".

    "Clean" 8 Ball

Yeah, it's like they are trying to take the fun out of the game. Does a baseball player have to call the home run of the centerfielder's glove? Do they pay like this in Pittsburgh? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Reception Yeah, bank pool is the strictest discipline and they don't...

Cue stick stroke with a spin.

That's ridiculous. Everybody knows you have to squeeze the extra power from the steering wheel. I don't understand how these people even got a license.

Cue stick stroke with a spin.

I'd be getting a lot of misses and I'm not trying to do anything clever with the cue.

[idea/question] Training stroke straighness with elastic bands

That's why I like the tape measure. And my bridge is on the same Southaven as when I'm actually shooting. I find out easier to judge the straightness seeing the yellow tape on both sides of the cue instead of the edge of the rail under the center.

    3D Printed stimpmeter

Yeah, I haven't really put much more thought into it but a cleaner release is a design goal. As it is now, I get less than 2" variation over 5'. I don't really need to measure more accurately than that. It could be interesting from a scientific perspective to quantify the effect of temperature...
