Is there a sensible theory for why maple might masse better than CF? Full disclosure: I don’t buy it. pj chgo

Safety options for this common shot?

The typical move is 1/2 ball soft cut to leave the two balls on opposite long rails about midway between pockets. pj chgo

Oh - I guess I misunderstood something. Thanks again. pj chgo

    Dr. Dave ....

Thanks. Is the higher deflection cue's ability to hit farther from center true for both views? pj chgo

    Dr. Dave ....

Dave, do you measure tip offset from the same viewpoint for both cues - i.e., centerball is on the line the CB will take (not parallel with the stick)? pj chgo

Does he say why a higher-deflection shaft can hit farther out on the CB? pj chgo

A level cue eliminates swerve. Inside/outside spin with a non-level cue produces swerve (if long/slow enough) in opposite directions. Inside swerve can give you a hit on the "back side" of the OB (if there's no rail in the way) for a >90° cut, as Bob demonstrated. pj chgo

    Dr. Dave ....

I don't know the answer, but here's a counter idea... A higher deflection cue is angled farther from the actual CB path at contact, which means it's angled farther from perpendicular to the CB's surface. I'm guessing that might make miscuing somewhat easier with higher deflection cues, but I...

    90+ degree cut shot

Not by following your "explanations". Be still my heart. pj chgo P.S. I know you play well, Bill - saw you in person enough times over the years at Chris's. You don't need to know the technicalities, but it may help others.

What does table size have to do with ball width? pj chgo

    90+ degree cut shot

Except Buddy said the squirt “thins the hit”, nothing to do with a rail. But since we’re on the subject, how does inside spin cause the CB to contact the back side of the OB, ball first, as you claim, when the OB is frozen to a rail? pj chgo

    90+ degree cut shot

How did your HOF’r explain that unnecessarily adding spin is an advantage? And why did you believe it? pj chgo

    90+ degree cut shot

So does aiming a little thinner - without the complications of estimating the combined effects of spin/squirt/swerve/throw. pj chgo

How does inside English “back cut” the ball? pj chgo

    90+ degree cut shot

I think folks are saying the OB is rebounding off the rail, not being “back” cut away from it. Maybe that’s not what you were saying? pj chgo
