World Pool Championship to leave Saudi!

I hope the WPC moves back to Cardiff. I could go for that again.

World Pool Championship to leave Saudi!

About the snooker event, the announcement said: “Thousands of spectators attended from nearly 40 countries, many experiencing elite live snooker and pool for the first time." From what I saw of the snooker tournament stream, the thousands of spectators must have been watching from the camel...

Seeing the contact point on the object ball.

Not always. I have a student who actually thought that his stick should point through the center of the cue ball and at the contact point on the object ball. He was having a lot of trouble pocketing balls. The real problems came when he consciously and carefully used that "system". Of course he...

    Pace of Play

Does that mean that the losers on the A side after the first round continue to go over to the B side?

    Identify these billiard balls

They are Centennials, but if they are old, they could have been made by Albany/Hyatt instead of SALUC (which also makes Aramith). The change in manufacturer to SALUC happened about 1988.

    Frozen ball double kiss.

A frozen object ball normally will not double kiss back to the same rail. If you shoot straight at a frozen ball, it will not leave the rail and return. There are exceptional, amazing shots in which the cue ball will return after the frozen ball has left the rail, and knock it back to the rail...

    Physics of a double kiss

Exactly. It's in the wrist. Dr. Dave has a video on this. ;)

Is a pool tournament not gambling?

Just like tennis players. I've declared tournament prizes on my Schedule C. It's not complicated, but you do have to show a steady profit or the IRS will say it's just a hobby.

Is a pool tournament not gambling?

I imagine that if a gambler got a lawyer and formed an LLC and had investors (backers) and did everything through the LLC, the taxes would work better. Just pay a lawyer. Isn't that the point of laws? “No matter how cynical I get, I just can’t keep up.” – Lily Tomlin

    Physics of a double kiss

It's a problem if the balls are in line to a corner but the center of the problem area is sometimes not the center of the pocket. And different tables play differently. Usually pool players are worried about the bank kissing out while snooker players are looking for a "dump" shot which is a...

That was a 2% increase per year with increasingly stiff competition. He practices a lot.

    Pace of Play

The hotseat waiting is a larger problem if the TD plays the winners' side straight through hoping to get ahead. It just makes the hotseat player sit for four or five matches. Some tournaments spread out the winners' side matches.

Taking the Pocket Out of Aiming

I think that system, which does give the ideal line for all cuts, is not particularly useful for long shots due to the errors that creep in over those distances. It might be very useful for when the cue ball is within a couple of balls of the object ball. Most players have little experience with...

Seeing the contact point on the object ball.

How do you deal with those perimeter lights, like the Predator ones?

    Pace of Play

Instead we often see the finalists split the pot at 2AM. Somehow the players think running into the dawn is OK. I guess for the players who go home at 10PM, it is. They got to play for a while and see some good players, and they get to bed at a reasonable hour.

dear diary: a 14.1 journey to nowhere

Here is an exercise that Alex Lely teaches for end pattern mastery: Set up a nice break shot and shoot it. Remove all but five object balls. This makes you think about the four ball sequence to get on the break shot. Run the balls -- hopefully, as you planned -- and shoot the break shot. After...

    Unsportsmanlike Conduct Rule

An alternative is to learn the game you are playing. The orthodox play is to lag the cue ball two cushions to end up frozen to the middle of the head cushion without hitting any object ball. This is absolutely standard strategy. Your opponent is on the first foul. It is important to know what...

World Top 200 Players by Fargo Rating (April2026)

SVB is 20 points higher. I think that could be legitimate improvement. I think the increased competition and motivation has improved a lot of players.

    Physics of a double kiss

Go to the table and mark the balls for a problematic shot like in the video, so you can repeat it exactly. Try different spins and speeds. One pocket players deal with ducking kisses all the time.
