    Unsportsmanlike Conduct Rule

A common situation: your opponent pockets the break shot and scratches without hitting the rack. You have ball in hand behind the line looking at a 15-ball rack. What do you do?

    Pace of Play

That will end in about half the time as DE. Sometimes even faster than that. If people demand at least two matches, have a consolation tourney for the first round losers, if there are plenty of tables. With SE, you could add a game or two to the match length and still finish much earlier.

    Physics of a double kiss

It's too bad they didn't have the time to discuss getting out of that double kiss. Sometimes you can.

Seeing the contact point on the object ball.

Well, it can be the basis for the ideal aim which is then modified according to the shot details. Beginners have to start somewhere.

Is a pool tournament not gambling?

I think the only time that is supposed to happen is if they have not submitted a TIN to the organizer or they have no TIN. That will often be true for foreign players. Well, maybe one other situation. I have been contacted twice by the IRS about players who had played in tournaments I...

    Pool tournaments history 1990s

The Sands had two events twice a year, a pro event and one for a regional nine ball league (USPPA). The league event may have gone over 256, but I don't think the pro event ever got that large. The league event drew a lot of spectators for the pros. Room were maybe $39 per night and that was...

Seeing the contact point on the object ball.

There's a whole forum for aiming topics. Maybe this thread will get moved there, but in the meantime.... Suppose you can keep the contact point in mind, say it happens to be a feature on the object ball. What do you then do with that point once you get over to shoot the cue ball?

Taking the Pocket Out of Aiming

A small nit about the illustration. I think it is better to show a shot that is not a half-ball hit. Some people may see that and conclude that is part of the deal when it is not. It is better to not give the reader that chance to make a mistake.

    Another Cueball Training Device/Product!!

Today at the pool hall I noticed a player had brought a hoop thingie and was shooting some shots with it. I asked him about it. He said a friend who has a 3D printer had made some of various radii and had given him two. The one he was using had about 1/4 inch total clearance. He said he found it...

    Professional pool prize funds historically.

What year was that? Or what number. Sometimes they had two per year. Here are some prizes from the 1980s/1990s listed in a previous thread: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/pool-tournaments-history-1990s.496840/page-2#post-6446895 The guy in that thread who was making a full...

How to Judge SPLIT HITS … Everything You Need to Know

That's true for a perfectly broadside shot as in the video or close to that, but usually the cue ball is coming in at an angle and that can make object ball speed more complicated.

    Unsportsmanlike Conduct Rule

Rule 3.16 says, in part: "3.16 UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT The normal penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct is the same as for a serious foul, but the referee may impose a penalty depending on his judgment of the conduct." It goes on to list weaker and stronger penalties from just a warning to...

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

Most physics-based calls don't require cameras; they just require understanding. There are some calls that require cameras to get right, but the "benefit of the doubt" clause can take care of those at the expense of a few uncalled fouls. I think cameras should be used wherever possible.

    Unsportsmanlike Conduct Rule

The current WPA/BCA World Standardized Rules are available on the WPA website. They are different from the (old?) rule cited above.

How to Judge SPLIT HITS … Everything You Need to Know

The guy who claimed they exist did not respond to my request for more info. My guess is that if there are such guidelines, they were created by someone who doesn't follow the WSR (World Standardized Rules).

How to Judge SPLIT HITS … Everything You Need to Know

The most irritating to me was the guy on YouTube who said I said you should not use any physics knowledge, just go with the order of the contacts you can actually see. He said that after I objected to: [BeginGarbage] BCA/WPA referee guidelines (which are different from the rulebook available to...

    Drills to correct your alignment

One device like that is a mirror that sits above the cue ball. If you cue straight at the mirror, the reflection of the stick will be in the same line as the stick. If you are off a little, the stick will look broken.
