How to Judge SPLIT HITS … Everything You Need to Know

I think you can figure overlapping contact from the speed of the cue ball and the contact time. After first contact, the direction of the cue ball and its speed will be changing to the new path, so it's a little complicated, but you can take an average to determine how much it will move towards...

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

Curiously enough, it was that if you could not actually see the tip hit the ball a second time, you could not call a double hit. Physics be damned. And that's the rule I used. Richie Florence was the victim of one of the most obvious double hits one could hope to see, except it was too fast to...

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

I wasn't the beast. Cueball Kelly was the beast. He reffed 27 matches and he was 85 at the time. Ball and count on every shot. He was mad because they picked someone else to ref the finals (Sigel/Varner). Maybe he needed the five bucks. 💰💰💰

Rules of Thumb in Golf Billiards

A friend of mine was in Hardtimes the same time I was down there (2005?). He often played golf up here and thought he would try his luck. Tiny pockets Rolls like the foothills of the Smokies Five champions who were tuned to the table Slightly different rules He missed his ball completely a...

    Drills to correct your alignment

I know a guy who shoots nothing else. He never plays anyone. He never shoots any other shot. He doesn't even change ends. There are several reasons why the X is a bad drill, especially the way some people end up playing it.

    Do I really NEED a $10k table?

The Dremel that goes to 200,000 RPM? I wonder if that's all CNC. I like inlay more than carved, like the Sorrento: Or maybe a Kling-inspired design.

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

I went to watch a World 14.1 Championship in New York. A friend told me the first day, "They're a little shorthanded." I put my hand up. No training, one bizarre rule added, and I reffed 24 two-hour matches in seven days. $5/match, calling each ball and the run total on each shot.

    Drills to correct your alignment

Once a player starts playing specific position on every shot, there is only one right speed for the position they are playing. I think George's advice was not for those players; he was speaking to the players who tend to use four-length speed on many shots. There are a few exceptions to this...

    Question for old timers@

I've seen reports of players getting a limited amount of spin with no tips prior to Mingaud, and I've done that myself in a rec room where there were no tips on the cues. It seems reasonable that Mingaud figured out how to press or treat the leather so it could last. Tip leather seems a lot...

New Type of Weekly Break Pot/Split Hit Draw Shot Challenge

Put two balls frozen in the middle of the table right between the side pockets. The shooter has to shoot between them and draw back to the side pocket. I think two chances is not enough but that can be adjusted. The average league player does have a chance to do it. Maybe one in 300 shots if...

How to Judge SPLIT HITS … Everything You Need to Know

Another factor is the pressure on the ref to make a call and that is hard to practice. The Yapp shot is a good example of this kind of situation. I think that may have ended up as, "I'm not sure it was a foul, so..." A video review with the head ref would have helped, if that had been available.

Rules of Thumb in Golf Billiards

Based on my limited experience: Expect to donate until you know how the table rolls. The table is not flat. You don't know all the rules.

    Drills to correct your alignment

George Fels talked about it frequently. So do a lot of instructors. The Wagon Wheel drill is just one example. George said something like, "I don't know how hard you're hitting the ball, but I know it's too hard." George's exercise for this was: run a rack without ever hitting the back of the...

    Do I really NEED a $10k table?

Looking over their catalog, some of the tables look like they have a lot of custom detail work and they could be made entirely in the US. For some people, that price is going to be a small part of furnishing their rec room. Some people pay that much for a cue stick.

    (Un)Popular Opinion on Fargo Rate

The idea is that if you keep careful track of the players, you can make better bets than the casual fan/bettor. With FargoRate, all the data is right there for everyone.

    Another Cueball Training Device/Product!!

Nah. There are easier, cheaper, more accurate, more effective and clearer ways to train for accurate cue ball delivery. Some gadgets are very useful. This hoop thing is not one of them.

Did you notice how much the OP paid for his, used, but set up perfectly? Seems like he got a great deal.
