2026 JOY Heyball Grand Masters Finals

I was talking with a manufacturer/wholesaler who does business in China and is in a position to know, and he said that if you add up participants in all cue sports, more than half of them play heyball. If that's true, and I can believe that it is, that could provide the needed funding.

John Schmidt Foul on 820 ball run. Looks intentional.

He has another foul later on that has been discussed in the main forum. According to reports, John doesn't plan to submit the run for any kind of record recognition. To be recognized as a record by the BCA, it must be done without any fouls.

How High Or Low Do You Cue For Maximum Spin And Had Dr. Dave Ever Studied This?

I'm pretty sure I understood what he was saying and it is not what actually happens on the table. It was a bogus "hot tip".

Parallel makes the pocket easier. The left facing looks to me like it has been thickened (and the pocket narrowed) by the addition of multiple layers of facing rubber without replacing the entire rail rubber. That is the cheap and wrong way to make a pocket smaller. The proper way is to add...

How High Or Low Do You Cue For Maximum Spin And Had Dr. Dave Ever Studied This?

For draw, the higher you elevate the more draw you get in relation to the forward speed because you are turning the shot into a masse shot. For follow, there is no equivalent. You cannot hit up on the cue ball* so there is no equivalent to the masse draw shot. Does that answer your question...

    8 ball history

When it comes to a lot of things in cue sports, your typical UKer is as stupid as a stump. Just look at the comments from Darren and Karl on the frozen ball shot that Pongers played. Eight ball was originally promoted by BBCCo (Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company) as BBCCo Pocket Billiards about...

I look in every year or two, usually from a search result. r/billiards has a moderator (I think) but he seems to have a high tolerance for light benders.

2026 JOY Heyball Grand Masters Finals

I'm reminded of a pool acquaintance who was invited with me to a Chinese restaurant by some Chinese people. It was in Las Vegas, but was pretty authentic. He decided he was going to eat nothing from the six or seven interesting dishes except pick out some beef from the scallion beef stir-fry...

They appear to be 10 to 12 degrees off parallel. The spec is 14. The facing on the left looks like it was not done properly.

For a little more context, here is the FB announcement... UMB 3-Cushion World Masters · We regret to announce the cancellation of the UMB World Masters in Bogotá (March 31 – April 5). This difficult decision follows a significant deterioration in the financial situation of the event’s sponsors...

The last Diamond I checked, you could see less than 50% of the ball going down the rail. I think it's supposed to be 60%. I first saw the "six balls, I call'em" proposition in action at the Student Union about 1966. The bet was a dollar, and the "customer" was down 60 when the "hustler" offered...

A related proposition I've mentioned before that is in Willie Jopling's booklet is to pocket six balls in six shots. The proposer calls the order. It is much harder than it looks. Note the exact positions of the balls. You are not allowed to pocket two balls on one shot.

The WPA table specs include how parallel the facings are. There should be a specified amount of closing as you go into the pocket. This is very, very important for how the pocket plays. I saw Fedor give a side pocket a long, hard stare after a ball popped back out. Are they really 4"?

What do you think of the rule differences? Do all the UK rules bother you? Or did you encounter them?

The shape of the pocket can have a large impact on how easy it plays. A huge factor is how far from parallel the facings are.

This is a really old proposition shot. The version I saw was with the cueball behind the line. The pro play was to play with follow and thin on a side pocket ball, go straight to the corner ball on the same side, and then hug the end rail with the follow for the other corner. This leaves about...

    Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

In one old book that described aim-and-pivot, a 14mm shaft was recommended and if they had ivory ferrules, fronthand would not have been useful.

The actual line of the mirror system depends on how you hit the cue ball. A soft roller has a different aim that a firm stun shot.

cue/shaft orientation as you shoot, facing one way every single time!

This has been discussed here multiple times over the last 20 years but I can't think of a good way to search for it. I marked my shaft and used a single orientation for years. The tip did not get deformed. I have no idea whether it helped my play. I rotated the cue automatically, so it was no...
