    Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

I was the TD for a pro event in 1980. Buddy was the smartest player there.

How High Or Low Do You Cue For Maximum Spin And Had Dr. Dave Ever Studied This?

They may line up only slightly below center but that's not where they're contacting the cue ball. If they are getting lively draw, they are hitting well below center.

    WNT, WPA and 2026

I just tried to find a list of past champions on the WPA website and found nothing. I think they used to have one.

    WNT, WPA and 2026

Wikipedia has a pretty good history of the World Championship. It seems that Matchroom's first event in Cardiff in 1999 (Reyes) was retroactively given world championship status.

    WNT, WPA and 2026

Yes. I did not remember that Matchroom moved it to Asia for four years after Cardiff.

    WNT, WPA and 2026

The first real open tournament Matchroom ran was the newly-purchased US Open Nine Ball in April, 2019 at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. That was about the same time that the Mosconi Cup started making money. Matchroom did run the World Pool Championship five times times around 2000, but the...

    Chohan's book.

I think some of the "more experienced" posters need to recalibrate on what "expensive" is. Ham and egg breakfast at the Westgate with coffee, tax and tip = $36. No OJ. Skip two breakfasts and you have the book. (I had/have all three 💰💰💰)

    9ball break

They're the rules used by both the WNT and the WPA which includes the Eurotour. I'm pretty sure CSI plays by the point spot rule. A PDF is available on the WPA website. What written set of rules says to use the full size of the spot sticker (if one is present)?

    Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

For deflection/squirt, there was no good theory until about 2000. By good, I mean able to make useful predictions and explanations of the underlying mechanics. People, including me, were just guessing. Deflection and back-hand compensation were known before 1840.

    9ball break

Sure. At the end of racking, move the back ball back a tiny bit so it is barely away from the two balls in front of it. That will let the wing ball go forward better. This can work even when the nine is on the spot. This "technique" is fairly well known on the pro tour -- I've seen a former...

    9ball break

The rules have a single infinitesimal point as the spot. It is not the area of some protective sticker. Not all players follow that rule. Templates make it easy to follow the rule. On a related point, the official rules now place the nine on the foot spot for the nine ball rack.

The Wonderful World Of Billiards , Snooker , Pool etc !

I guess "soon" is a relative term. WST has spoken. The contract with the Crucible has been extended to at least 2045. 500 seats will be added. There's probably a press release somewhere.

    pool has changed

Here is a pro match from 1991. Two world champions. Large pockets. And somewhat old rules, except on the break and for illegally pocketed balls.

    New Dynaspeheres Set

The most plausible cause is that there is an exposed nail or other metal in a pocket. It would be nice to have a picture. I can imagine the reaction at Seybert's when the ball and demand arrive.

    9 Ball Roll Out Situation

So far as I know, there is no referee who is in the BCA Hall of Fame. Maybe some players in the HOF have acted as refs, but no one has entered for being one. The only Tom in the HOF is Tom Rossman. I'm not aware of him ever acting as a referee for nine ball.

    9 Ball Roll Out Situation

I think the WPA rule is clear. Only two foul rules are suspended during a push out at nine ball. Any other foul still counts as a foul. The fouls that apply in a particular game, such as nine ball, are listed in the rules of that game and described in the common fouls section.

    9 Ball Roll Out Situation

In the US, it used to be not a foul to knock object balls onto the floor. If you had scored on the shot, you continued at the table. It was also the rule at 3-cushion billiards. Balls driven off the table would spot. There were carom fancy shots where a kiss could be avoided by flying the first...

    Sticky threads...

Seems like one thread for admin rules and posting techniques would be sufficient. "READ ME FIRST -- new user info -- rules and tips" There seems to be at least two "help needed" threads that no longer apply.

Ralf Souqet scratches at hill-hill in Quarters of Belgian Open

I think it's possible to be sure you get below the side, but it may require too much speed to stay on the six. On that shot, you should be able to bring the cue ball back on the line you came in on.
