I have actually played pool in Fargo. I have never been on a horse willingly.

You should ask the chess people among many others who have rating systems for their competitions.

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

When I watch basketball, it seems that there is an obvious foul every minute. And as for football, you must watch a different game than I do.

Or 1807. The first major book in English about cue sports, Enoch White's "Billiards", has 12 pages of tables telling you, for example, if the spot was 5 on the wire going to 12 to make an even game, and the current score is 7-7, the correct odds for betting at this point are 5-2. So, 220 years...

    Ultimate Pool - Florida Open

I wonder if the US leagues don't implement time controls because the whole point is to keep people at the bar. Instead we get five-minute coaching time outs so the 2 can miss to some other pocket. The leagues I've played in since 1979 had only about 25% dead time. Before that, it was two games...

I notice now that the quoted thread is from seven years ago. Things might have changed.

One solution for this problem (if it is a significant problem) is to have an RR or Recent Rating for players that includes only the last year of games. I suppose a player with fewer than some number of recent games would not have an RR.

This has been mentioned several times. The player needs 150 games in the last two years to be on the TOP lists: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/2019-china-open-9ball-9ft-5-8-sep-winner-40k.499116/page-10#post-6473832

UK Open 2026, London, May 26-31

For those who are interested in attending, the venue is easy to get to for international travelers. Brentwood is on one end of the Elizabeth Line (underground) and Heathrow Airport is on the other end, with London in between.

SVB is now ranked 17th and Styer is ranked 27th on the WNT ranking list. Those are the only Americans (other than Fedor) in the top 30. If Lukas and Thorsten can get themselves there, you might think those three could figure out a way to play. I haven't been able to find any printed list of...

UK Open 2026, London, May 26-31

The UK Open is in Brentwood, near London. The player list of 256 players has just been announced. I can't find a text version, but here are the top 64. The entry fee this year is $350. There are some celebrity entrants, including Barry Hearn OBE, a cricketeer? (Shane Thompson), and a darts...

(edited) The UP rule for a while was no continuation if only an 8 on the break. It came up in the first few UP events in the US.

    1 Pocket Rules question

The score is traditionally kept with the physical balls, plus coins to mark owed balls. That means if you have no physical balls in your storage area, your score is either zero or negative according to how many coins are on the rail on your side of the table. With that method of scoring, you...

That's a ranking system. A rating system is very different from a ranking system. And in effect, FargoRate uses the last three or four years of games played because old matches count less.

Evidently @gregcantrall has had his account hacked. Have you exchanged PMs with him? How did you find out about his cue? He does not sell here according to this post he made:

Scott Gracio I want my cue or money back now.

Neither of the parties has been on AZB in the last ten years. You could ask Scott on Facebook, but you might not get a response.

    Object Ball Contact Point

Yes, you can miss even if the cue ball lands on the ideal contact point. For example if you shoot a long stop shot with unintended sidespin. But I think you already know this. I'm curious about what you're getting at.
