    DAZN issues

It comes from working in the profession and having a knowledge of how web services are actually built. And yes, if you are an engineer designing a critical service and the electricity goes out and you don't have a backup system in place, it absolutely is your fault.

    DAZN issues

It's AWS's issue but it's also DAZN's issue. AWS is having problems with a single region. A well designed system would have enough redundancy not to go down because of that.

    DAZN issues

I was trying to sign up but their payment processing system is down. One of the AWS regions is having issues and a lot of sites are having problems. https://apnews.com/article/amazon-web-services-outage-978394126305 Not really a valid excuse though, a big site like DAZN ought to have better...

    Dents in the felt

If you could put dents in the felt like that, the felt at tournaments would be cratered like the surface of the moon from the pros playing jump shots on them, where they don't just drop balls but actually hit downwards on them with a good bit of force to make them jump. That said, I don't...

Tip position and cue ball spin at CB/OB impact are two different things!

    That's why you're a Fargo 7xx and I'm about 4xx. :)

Tip position and cue ball spin at CB/OB impact are two different things!

That's an interesting experimental setup, but the scientist/engineer in me has to point out the flaw in your design. The cue ball will be airborne after a high speed above-center hit, so it wouldn't actually detect overspin. You can actually see the hop if you advance the video frame-by frame...

Tip position and cue ball spin at CB/OB impact are two different things!

I'm not sure I "follow". My understanding is that if you hit a firm stroke sufficiently above-center you'd get it rolling forward faster than a natural roll. That extra spin will wear off an speed the cue ball up the analogous to how backspin wears off and slows the cue ball down until it starts...

Tip position and cue ball spin at CB/OB impact are two different things!

Minor correction: Time = Distance / Speed Great write-up otherwise!

    Shoot outs SUCK!

Yet somehow that didn't affect every other sport.

Dr. Dave Schools Neil deGrasse Tyson in Billiards Physics

Great to see two people I look up to featured in one podcast! It was pretty interesting to see Dr. Tyson immediately pick up on fairly subtle effects like spin transfer. I do find the comic relief guy a bit grating and wish they'd drop him from Startalk, but maybe it helps widen the audience for...

    The PAUSE in pool stroke

This might seem counter-intuitive, but a drill my teammate had me do really improved the rhythm of my shot. We shot balls around for a couple of hours with no practice strokes. Aim, get down, pull back, shoot. He'd stop me and make me reset if I even had the tiniest back-and forth or adjustment...

    US Open 9-ball updates thread..

Comments like this are the death of real pool. God forbid new players get a chance to play competitively and get a taste of victory. Key to growing the sport is making it as frustrating and discouraging as possible for beginners, right?

    US Open 9-ball updates thread..

SVB and Skylar Woodward are the only two Americans left standing now, and Woodward is probably underdog in his match, and SVB is the only American favorite to make the final 16.
