REP - broderline NPR, Moderator feel free to move

Do you feel the need to rep every thread you believe stands out? I would rather REP and use the comments to tell why. Obviously, sometime you feel the need to reply. Just wondering. BTW, my first poll so forgive me if this somehow (read: 50% chance) gets messed up. So it was supposed to...

    Veterans Day

My sincere thanks and gratitude to all US veterans. God bless all of you. Today allows us the opportunity to reflect on what you've done for us. Let's not forget these brave men and women the other 364 days of the year. BTW, I'm a strong proponent of allowing Veterans free access to all US &...

Value of 99 Critical Shots, 1st edition

I've found a copy of Ray Martin's 99 Critical Shots in good condition. There is no dust jacket but the inside front cover is autographed by Ray to someone named Glen. I won't divulge the asking price but it is less than dinner at Ruth's Chris. Does anyone know the fair value for a signed 1st...

    TommyT the golfer

Tom is too bashful to bring this up but it's worth mentioning to his many friends here. Tom won the senior club championship at his CC over the weekend. He works as hard on his golf game as his cue collection. He didn't even call me to brag I read it in the paper. Obviously, he's a much...

Poll: Jump cues and cue extenders

IMO, they should be outlawed in all games except 9 ball and 10 ball.

    What's right??

You make the call? You’re playing a good friend, no money just bragging rights. You play this friend often and you kind of know their strengths and weakness’s. Playing one pocket and only cue ball fouls. OK. Regardless of the score you’ve just fouled by not driving a ball to a rail or...

    popped slate

My GCIII was recovered/releveled in May 2005. No problems at all until just recently. One of the slates has popped. Not too suprising as the table sits on a floating slab basement floor. What is a little unusual, at least to me is this. The extent of the popped slate is only about 15 inches. It...

    New tip changes squirt?

I believe that it does. I like my tips on the short side, the straight burnished side being between 1 and 2 MM (.04" to .08"). On my first generation 314 shaft I keep a dime radii. Recently I was given a LePro "milkdud" that I used to replace a Talisman medium-hard tip. The new tip is about 3 MM...

    AZB/DCC room

Derby City was wonderful again. But I've got to relate a funny story to you all. I arrive at the DCC on Thursday around 1:30PM. My flights got me out of bed at 4AM and I was a little tired but still excited to be there. I head directly for the AZB room and sign up for one of the tables. The...

Question about the Diamond smart table

When last at the DCC I remember buying tokens for the smart table. IIRC, they were a buck each. Does anyone know if the US $1 coins will also work. I remember a few times needing the coins and having to stop the action and run out to the hallway for tokens. TIA.....Paul

I played Strickland last night at Babineau's

So I’m in N. Carolina and went to Babineau’s Billiards for some pool and grub. Paul, the owner, gives me free table time and anyone who wants to can jump on the table. I’m playing this guy Rodney who shots pretty good and we trade a few games back and forth before he shows his real speed and...

    Pool halls in Raleigh

I’m in Raleigh NC next week and will have evenings free. What are the better pool halls worth checking out. I’m not really interested in taverns with bar boxes. A place with decent food would be a plus. Paul Mon

    Rerack question

If the break ball is pocket in the wrong pocket or the shooter plays safe and pockets the ball are all 15 balls reracked tightly? Or do you simply place the 15th ball on the spot and take whatever gaps are there. I can not find a rule covering this. Is it a courtesy to allow the incoming...

    Skid

What can be done to reduce it? I’ve missed shots and/or position on the most simple shots due to %$#& skid. My regular opponent says that outside english reduces or eliminates skid. I don’t think so. I believe that skid is caused by residual chalk on the cueball coming between the contact points...
