    router question

Bit Speed Assuming you are running a constant RPM and both bits have the same # of cutting blades, the blades on both bits would hit the same #of times. Due to a larger circumference, the 1/2" bit has the fastest surface cutting speed in my humble opinion. John

    Would appreciate a diagnosis

If the shaft and butt are straight, then most likely refacing one or both will solve your problem. It is possible you have a bent pin. If the pin is bent, you should be able to see some wobble as you roll the butt across the table. John

Do you cut shafts from house cues ?

Willie, I have made a few and like you I prefer the older dense wood as well. It is well seasoned !! If an old house cue is reasonable straight after many years, I have had good luck with them. If you have to cut out a warp, it usually comes back. Just my take on it! Glad to see you posting...

Anyone ever see a handle / A-joint joined like this, if so why?

From the grain lines, it looks like the forearm and the front part of the handle is one piece. If that is true, then it should be OK construction wise (albeit different than standard). I'm guessing the maker had a long piece of curley to work with and not so much handle material!! John

    Questions about Oak Shafts?

There are many varieties of oak. Probably white oak or post oak would be the closest to sugar maple weight, but would still be 5-10% heavier. White oak has a tighter grain and is split resistent. I have used white oak for butts on a couple of cues and they looked and hit good. John Fowler

dime shaped tip or nickel shaped tip?

A dime shape gives a bit more spin. Knickel is more accurate, especially on long shots IMHO. John

    Laminated tips

I'm currently using a Molavia medium. Nice crisp hit with lots of action and very good on the long draw shots. I haven't tried a Moori in a while, but I think the Molavia has slightly livlier hit in comparision. John Fowler

    Enco or Grizzly?

I agree with Bob, Enco and Grizzly are basically the same type/quality of import. Assuming they come with the same equipment, I would go for the best price. John
