Once a hotbed of snooker related activities and original home of the United States Snooker Association, the Chicago area has become a virtual desert in the snooker world. Providing an oasis for enthusiasts, the ACES Snooker Club in northwest suburban Crystal Lake, IL is proud to announce the formation of a fall/winter snooker league to culminate in a Club Championship Tournament in the spring. With this inaugural season, the ASC hopes to rekindle awareness of and enthusiasm for the sport we love in Chicago and surrounding areas.

The ASC is a private club accessible only to members and their guests, but membership is hardly exclusive, the only requirement being a true passion for this great pastime. The ASC boasts the finest publicly available, full sized snooker table likely to be found, playing as near as possible to proper WPBSA and IBSF specification, with all necessary ancillary equipment included. The table is currently undergoing complete renovation to further enhance its playing characteristics in preparation for utopian league play. Loaner cues and instructional materials are also available for newcomers.

The upcoming league will only be available to ACES Snooker Club members, and prospective members must be vetted and approved for membership prior to November 4, 2012 which is the final date for entrants to sign up for the league play, no exceptions.

While the ASC is a private club, we welcome any and all snooker enthusiasts into our abode as treasured guests. Any forum readers who may travel through the Chicago area are welcome to stop in for a frame or two. If you may be interested in joining us for an afternoon or a lifetime, contact information can be found at the club website:

ASC club members are citizens of the world, thus far with members who originate from various countries on three different continents, and members who reside and travel from as far away as Madison, Wisconsin to play on this fine equipment.

Bump......

ACES Snooker Club newly renovated table is now up and running, and playing to near perfection. Video can be seen on the website listed above, left column, labelled "Don new 40".

I am hoping to generate interest in this upcoming snooker league, but to date, I have not received any responses from members of this forum. If you or anyone you know falls within the geographical triangle between Chicago, Milwaukee, and Rockford, IL, you should really get in and check out this equipment and inquire about the ASC Snooker League. See the website for additional details.

Deadline to sign up for this snooker league in the Chicago area is November 4, 2012, one month away. If you have a passion for snooker and are in the general area around Chicago, north to Milwaukee, and west to Rockford, IL, you should look into this now.

The deadline is absolute. If you are not a member of the club, it will take a few preliminaries to get you signed up. If you haven't seen the website yet, it is:

Congratulations to the Champion of the First Annual ACES Snooker League Tournament!

In preparation for his bid at the US National Snooker Championship, Vaishal Talati has secured his position as the champion of the Chicagoland area by handily finishing the tournament phase of the league with a 5 frames to 3 victory over runner-up Jim Fitzpatrick.

Congratulations, and good luck at Nationals, Vaishal!

The ACES Snooker League consisted of ten players contesting 5 frames per match, a total of 45 frames per player and 450 compiled frames to complete the full season running from November, 2012 through April, 2013. Competitors were handicapped by ability with a self-adjusting system during the regular season, but were given the choice of playing from scratch as desired for the Championship Tournament. Vaishal, a zero handicap at the close of the season anyway, and Jim, finishing the season at a handicap of just 4 points, played the Finals evenly contested from scratch.

The finals were played in a special format, best of 9, must win by 2, to a maximum of 11. Vaishal, off to a strong start, led 3 frames to 1 at the mid-session interval and went ahead to 4-1, but Jim found his groove to come back to 4-3 before Vaishal took the ninth frame to clinch victory on the last black ball. Had Jim taken that black, the match would have continued at least two more frames before a victory could be claimed by either player.

The tournament phase of the ACES Snooker League was a formal, fully refereed affair; video can be seen at the club website, first video BELOW the calendar:

Snooker League 2013/2014

Despite today's weather forecast for record temperatures of 95 degrees in mid-September, I am looking ahead to the cooler weather and the coming season of Snooker in the Chicagoland area.

Again this year, starting in mid-November, anyone in the general area between Chicago, Milwaukee, and Rockford, IL with an interest (or even a passing curiosity) in our great pastime should inquire about the ACES Snooker League in Crystal Lake, IL. If you or anyone you know in this region want to find out more about this league, links to the website can be found earlier in this thread.

The league will run from November through April and culminate in a Club Championship Tournament. To play in the ACES Snooker League requires club membership so anyone interested should begin to inquire well before the league sign up deadline of November 4, 2013.

ACES Snooker League will again be starting in November. This is the third season of competitive snooker for any enthusiasts who may reside in the general geographical area of the northwest Chicago suburbs. A number of club members are willing to travel an hour or more to play snooker on the best publicly available equipment in the Midwest and this may be the only organized snooker competition in this area.

If you live within a 25 or 30 mile radius of Crystal Lake, IL and have even a passing interest in snooker, there is no reason not to try a proper frame at ACES Snooker Club. If you wish to play in the snooker league, contact the club by Googling "snooker in Chicago" and you can easily find the website. You can sign up for league up until November 4, 2014. League play will consist of one five frame match to be scheduled at your own convenience once every two weeks.
